wfp makes me loads more money and saves time.
you will need ro system if you live in hard water area.
 go for omnipole.

Hi Edd , it depends on your TDS level of your water ,,, on the RO , DI  front .
I was not the quickest on ladders , but the poles upped my daily take by 30-50%

WFP saves time and makes me money.

I used to work 4 1/2 days a week I now work 2 1/2 days a week and I earn 30% more than I used to.

I would always go for RO based system.
I use Exel Universal glassfibre poles (Ionics,GPS,Omni,Stream, etc.) I hjave tried all on market barring the ergolites and I know that they save me a lot of time compared with anything aluminium.

Have fun

At the moment I am earning less than I did from a ladder.  However, this is because I've only just started with it and I'm doing first cleans and re-learning my round.  I anticipate a big increase in income over the next couple of years (I'll need it to pay for the equipment).

Hi Edd

Yes its worth investing in. I started with WFP around 6 months ago and now I am at least 30% faster. Thats doing trad on ground floor and WFP on anything higher and also all of the house if it's leaded or georgian.

Dont know what type of work you have. Mine is almost all domestic and £60 per week ( I take it thats a lease payment figure ) seems expensive for a good domestic work set up.

At your TDS readings you should go for a static water production system with RO and DI.

I would suggest that you describe your work and you will get very good advice on what set up will suit you here.

My turnover increased by 33% within a few months, and it is still increasing now.
My work load can still be increased by 25-30% as the speed at which I work is on average far higher than the 33% increase in turnover suggests....er, if you see what I mean :-\
I'm at least (the very least) 50% faster than before so it is the increase in work that is making the difference, and I'm still knocking it out in less time than I was before.
Haven't actively touted for work either, I'm just not turning it away anymore, and that is where the increase in turnover has come from.
So financially a very good move.
It isn't to be viewed through rose tinted glasses though, it takes effort and there is a steep learning curve.

As for what system?

Well I'd certainly go for an R/O, your water isn't very hard, but it will still eat through resin at a fair lick. R/O will always prove cost effective.

There are so many options out there now, and it also depends on the depth of your pocket, you can be up and running for well under £1000 or you can spend upwards of 20k.

Ultimately they all do the same job, i.e, use a 12 volt battery to power a pump that pushes pure water up to a brush on the end of a pole with which you clean windows.

Whether you go for a backpack system or a trolley, trailer or van mount all depends on your personal circumstances.
Broxburn, brodex, Omnipole, Ionics, Tucker or D.I.Y. (and others I haven't mentioned but have slipped my mind as I pen this! :P)
Have a look at them all, don't be fooled by those that say this system or that is the best, they all work well.
We all love our own systems, take your time, don't rush!

And don't forget, you can always upgrade as you go along.

Link your needs to your pocket.

well i am no faster on average .

But on a few certain jobs i am 50 % quicker .

For me the speed does not come into it ,it is the safety side that interested me

Dave,

I'm suprised 'on average' that you don't find it much quicker.

Do you not think where you have a concentration of houses together (therefore just one lot of 'setting your kit up time') that it's quicker than using a ladder?

I mean rather than having to move your ladder from window to window and the climbing up and down; you just take a few steps with your pole to the next window and begin cleaning?

I agree with the 50% reduction in time for some jobs.  Anything leaded/Georgian or with a lot of difficult ladder work is slashed.

Last week I fitted a Y connector to my 50 litre trolley system and connected to poles to it.  A short one for 'Wimpy Wor Lass' who did the ground floor and a longer one for myself to do the 1st floor.

We did 3 Georgian and two leaded houses in under an hour.  Three of these houses were bigger than your average 3-bed semi.

Because our trolley flow rate is fast (no variflow) we worked fast, but also did an excellent job; I checked while collecting.

There's no-doubt - in my humble opinion - (and it is humble; I'm still wet behind the ears compared to many here) that the WFP is an excellent financial business move; never mind the safety benefit, which I think is an added bonus.

It took me a while to speed up. I did not use enough water when I started.
Increasing the flow can actually save water and increase your speed.
We all dread the dark evenings, wondering how we are going to keep up with an ever increasing workload when winter comes. The WFP means I can do the same amount of work by 3.30 as I could previosly by 5pm. That's as good as putting an extra day in every week.
A lot will depend on your round. Mine is very compact, rarely have to move the van more than once a day. The more compact your domestic work is the more WFP comes into it's own. The downside for me is the extra time I spend on system maintanace.
Nobody ever seems to go back  to ladders once they have gone onto WFP.
Go for it and good luck. DAI

v8 edd:if your that far behind, dont go into wfp just yet cus you will be slower doing the first clean you may end up 12 weeks behind, wait till  the spring,to much frost about yet ,and you will end up pulling your hair out if it freezes.

Tosh

I can occasionally earn £200 off a ladder on a dayon my own  and can do 4 large leaded houses in an hour with 2 of us ,honestly i am not any quicker on average . I dont know if i am being too thorough at the moment i have no one to compare myself too. But still not one complaint yet .

david you will get alot quicker as your overall feel for using wfp comes with time just as many of you cast an eye over with trad it will be the same with wfp.

i have found that my capisity to earn has gone up by 100% with out any difficulty even taking into account that i have got older its been well over 5 years now i on average do twice what i did 5 years ago and have compressed to 2.5- 3 days a week on average , which gives me me time to design and install our wfp systems .

v8edd even to peoples dislike i would  go di only working 2 vessels together .with the addistion of a trolley for ease of some jobs with such a low tds a r/o is quite pointless even though r/o will be cheaper overall ,if you put a reasonble flow control you can regulate the flow of water to minimise wastage

It's horses for courses, or something like that, but I went wfp after a fall that could have ended up much worse than it did, money wise I spent £2600 on my system and went from around £100 a day to roughly £250, best so far is £428 but that was a one off in the zone doin ma thaing day.  Big difference on plastic frames and leaded glass, 3 or 4 times quicker and does a better job, plus the next time i fall it'll be me tripping over the hose and not off a 1st floor roof!

Also, on top of making more cash, it transforms your difficult accounts into jobs that you look forward to doing.  I did three of mine in just over an hour this afternoon.

It consisted of two large Georgian jobs and a house with a sloping roof under the 1st floor; front and back; one that couldn't safely be done without a Rojak ladder stopper.

One £20 job, one £18 job and an £8.00 for the one with the sloping roofs.

Not bad by my standards for an hours work.  Wor Lass is off with a cold.

if as i do ,clean frames aswell when needed will this make switch to wfp easier and quicker, i just thought that i would be a bit more fussy about cleaning frames down before making the change in the spring, and about the time i switch will make big effort to target awkward houses , thus paying for system.
ps do you need wfp now for local authority work.

Yeah another thing is some local authorities are banning ladders in town centres etc - I know of at least 2 councils over here that have already banned ladders in town centres - crazy but so's a lot of things.
