I have just added a second pump and controller to my van setup. Neither pump now seems to be getting enough water. The tank outlet is split with a hoselock y piece and then a short 1/2" run to the pump inlet. I suspect the outley on my tank isn't big enough.

Does anyone know where I can pick one up and what exatly I am looking for. I don't even know what sze I am after. I am off to screwfix a little later for something unrelated, would they do anything that might work. Any help appreciated.

give yourself more pipe run from the "y" piece to the pumps then lower the speed down on the the two pumps start very slowly let the water run thru the two pumps even if its a trickle then build it up slowly,preferably the furthest one first
what you are in essence doing is "balancing" the system
we have two man set,two pumps, controllers and this is what we had to do shouldn't take long once done should be ok

I changed the small crappy fitting that came with tank for a full size 1 inch I think outlet that I split into 2 3 quarter inch outlets feeding pipes. can supply exact sizes or pix if like. works right down to empty no matter how high flow.

I find this topic very interesting.

I have a two man system with a reducer to half an inch at the tank using half inch reinforced plastic pipe to a ball cock valve (to drain the tank if need be.) On this line I have "T'd" off it twice for both pumps and I can honestly say that even when both pumps work flat out (Boost on Varistream Controller) there is enough supply for both pumps.

So if it works for me, I can't undersatnd how this isn't working for you. What pipe are you using from the your tank to your pumps. If it is ordinary garden hose, then maybe it being sucked flat and restricting the flow.

We had experience of something similar in the motor trade about 20 years ago. A brand new BMW 520i would cut out with fuel starvation once the tank got down to about a quarter full. There was no problem when the tank was between a quarter and full.
After many hours of fruitless investigation, an apprentice noticed that the flexible rubber hose at the tank collapsed and caused the issue. Once that piece of hose was replaced, the problem was solved.

I will look at it in more detail today. I suspect I might have air in the system so will get one online first today and then bring the other on. Prime the system properly. It is 1/2 inch hose but decent hose, I don't think any of it has collapsed but will check it out a bit later. Will try Bobplum's method andsee how I get on.

Here are couple of pictures mate, cant get the 3 way brass connector to show picture of it as its wedged under tank....

But heres the gist of it:  A 1.5 inch outlet, into a stop tap, into a 90 degree bend, followed by another 90 degree to run it back down the length of the tank, into a 1 inch tricoflex pipe for about foot or so, into a 3 way splitter which reduces it into 2 half inch pipes, another foot or so length into my 2 filters and then on into the pumps.





Make sure your pumps are as low as possible, i have my tank on a 2 inch platform, and the pumps mounted right at the bottom so even when its completely empty it can drain it all out.  This is crucial as to start off with the pumps were too high, and wouldnt drain out at all under quarter of a tank.....
