What do you guys wear in the winter months
« on: October 11, 2011, 06:44:32 am »
I'm out in Canada on Vancouver Island and the weather will be turning to fall soon.
Just started gutter cleaning for the season and was wondering if everyone used waterproof breathable gear or just cheep waterproofs,
On a side note I am using my SL2 sections for the vac and did 75 houses last week with mostly roof grit and sand coming out.
No sign of wear on the inside of the poles yet got another 70 to do over the next 2 weeks so will keep everyone informed.

Anyone else out in Canada on this forum,, I came out from the north east 5 years ago

Bill

I like to wear warm clothes in the winter.

No,  I am not from Canada, but have visited Torronto, if that counts ;D

Hi All,
We Suck !! is the company name and most of the work comes word of mouth.
and the website www.wesuck.ca
Just starting to add gutter cleaning to the window cleaning this year.
Most work is strata which is like housing associations and private owners who combine services.
some residential but mostly groups so I do 30 to 50 at a time with the vac.
Money is good out here for both windows and gutters as i'm on Vancouver Island and the weather is quite mild.
Warmer summers than the UK and wet rather than snowy winters.
Using my SL2 base sections with a heavy shop vac.

hi bill. well done. i use the base sections also! no wear on them!  how do you loosen the strong weeds and grass from the ground? i tried a spike on my pole but was not very good. i try to just push the vac nozzle hard along it to dislodge  but wondered if you could recommend anything better?

I've only one 75 houses this month so far and not come across anything the vac won't suck yet.
90% of the stuff in the gutters is grit
its just a standard single engine vac at the moment but i'm looking at a three engine one for next year
trying to do my research on the forum first.

Coming back to what do you wear in the winter. I just wear a good fleece, even in the snow. Plus a good par of boots and thick socks.

I tend to find that when it starts to rain by the time I have finally got the message that its not just a passing shower I am too wet to put on waterproofs so its sit in the van and drink coffee time.

Hi Bill, if you are going to work in the rain regularly {which is what it sounds like} you should get the best gear you can- i.e. breathable/top make. Other wise you will end up sweaty and cold.
I do a fair bit of guttering too but think I have the heaviest equipment known to man :-( No way could I use it for more than an hour or so.
