W/CLEANING, THE MOST DANGEROUS JOB IN THE WORLD.Kudos!
« on: October 30, 2005, 03:06:44 pm »
Its True.

Well at least according to churchill insurance.

Go to   www.concept2o.com

Click on downloads

Click on Churchills professions release.

I've downloaded it, put it into word and I am going to print some copys off.
I will give it to customers who are unsure about me useing wfp from december.
I am now really going to plug the safety aspect for switching over, And I hope those who want me to stay traditional will feel a bit guilty when its been regognized as the most dangerous job in the world.

Quote:-

Churchill’s Life spokesman, Greg Dawson said, “Window cleaners were top of the pile as they are working at height, on ladders, with one or more implements, and need incredible balance and concentration.  They could be described as Circus Performers without the safety net.”

It’s official: Window Cleaning is the riskiest profession in the UK.  Daredevil window wipers have been ranked ahead of Lifeguards, Ambulance Drivers and even Circus Performers in a dangerous jobs league table released today by Churchill Insurance.

What do you think? Kudos or what.

Nel.

The insurance company is talking about 'risk' as opposed to injuries and fatalities.

A small point maybe but risk is different to injury.

Abseiling is incredibly risky unless care is taken then it is relivately safe.

In compiling H & S statistics there is the risk to different groups of people such as those who take little precautions, those who act with diligence and those who are thorough in terms of safety. Then there is the whole system of catagorising the difference types of risks and the circumstances such as weather, distractions and then there is the actual injury statitics.

Then with insurance companies are they describing 'risk' from their own past records or from H & S statistics?

Words can be used by companies selling something to say almost anything they in terms of the persons perception of what is being said.

Cheers

Nel,

It's rubbish, mate.  I've been down this road before.  Look at some other studies done by reputable establishments, such as universities and you'll find it's fishermen and soldiers and stuff who have the most dodgy occupations.

Churchill Insurance produce some incorrect statistics and come up with 'Window Cleaning is the most dangerous occupation in the UK.  Click here to get insurance'.

Rollocks!

Your point is well made Ross.  Quite simply, someone who feels that ladder climbing is dangerous and feels nervous about it will not become a window cleaner (trad style anyway).  I would not feel OK about swinging from a trapeze - therefore I don't.  Nor would I feel OK about climbing a rockface - so again, I don't.

My insurance broker phoned again today. He told me that he can't find any insurance companys that will cover window cleaners for accidents.
I have had cover for the last 10 years but AXA pulled the plug on me, and won't let me reniew my premium. I was shocked at this. how many of you guys are insured for personal accidents?. If my broker is right then most of us either have no cover or will not have very shortly. We can get employee liability at a hefty premium but cannot get cover for ourselves. A bit ironic in my own case having just gone over to WFP. I pose no more risk now than a postman. My lad fishes for north sea mackeral  in the winter. The risk is reflected in his wages £50k a year for 4 months work. Try telling him that window cleaning is more risky. DAI

TOMO. thanks for that, I am surprised, it seems that few W/C 's have cover for themselves. DAI
