he spends all week just walking around doing the town shops, Ive watched him, my mrs works in a place and she saw him clean the window, notice some dirt still on it, so spit on the window and run is off with his sleeve

he must only change his water every week aswell

BUT, he is cheap, so people keep him

It is the cheapest and most effective chemical you can find.

Firstly we would just like to say hi to everyone on this forum......

Just wanted to say that being foreign doesnt mean that you are at a disadvantage.  My husband is Turkish and only a year ago had never cleaned a window in his life but with the help of this forum and lots of enthusiasm, he decided to set up his own business.  There has been lots to learn and mistakes have been made but one year on and business is growing really well.  We dont think it really matters too much about nationality as long as you can speak english and you do a first class job.  Weve now added pressure washing and gutter cleaning and are looking to make the move into reach and wash in 2006.  I know this post has strayed off the original topic abit but just wanted any newbies to know that if my husband can make a success of this anybody can. All it takes is lots of determination and hardwork!

Good for you and hubby Claire, welcome aboard!

I think that is a valid point you make about nationality - for every prejudiced person that dislikes "foreigners" there is another who will take any hard working person who is trying to do a good job for them "under their wing" and use their service.
It's a game of three halves!

Happy for you Clair. My Mrs is Indonesian and works with me. My clients love her. I do one office job where the guys are really dissapointed if I go there on my own. She's no model, just has a heart warming smile. DAI

I was talking to a guy who works on the buildings in London. He says the Eastern Europeans have taken over. Where a job was paying £100 a day you are now lucky to get £40.
This is still good money to them. They are happy to work for £40 a day

I can't wait till they discover window cleaning

Vince I agree.

I've done tours in Bosnia and in Kosovo.  In Kosovo one of my jobs was to pay the local employed civillians - cash.

The lads (Kosovans) who worked at the Central Amunition Depot; digging trenches and installing security fences grafted hard.  HARD.  For £7.00 per day.  This was only 3 years ago.

£7.00 per day was good money in Kosovo then; so £40 must sound like the jackpot; especially if they can secure dirt-cheap accommodation.

They were extremely tough guys (even by Geordie standards) with a good work ethic.

I hope they don't discover window cleaning in the Chepstow area.

Hi Matt,

I too have spat on my sleeve & rubbed  off the odd drip/mark but only when my gear was not to hand & almost certanly when no one was looking  & was charging £1.50 per window & not job.

Hi everyone

Just wondered if Vince and Tosh were joking when they say they hope the eastern europeans dont discover window cleaning.   Maybe things are different down here in Southampton but I doubt if they would do all that well!  Unless they want to invest their hard earned money in a sign written van, advertising, uniform, ladders, scrims etc etc.

The only reason I haven't muscled  in on Chepstow and booted out Tosh is because i can't afford the £4.80 toll to cross the Severn Bridge! (£9.60 if its even the smallest of vans) ;D
