WFP vans to rent anywhere?
« on: September 05, 2011, 03:42:39 pm »
I'm near Gatwick.  I don't suppose by some stroke of luck it's possible to rent a van with tank for a few days?  It looks like I'm going to be out of action for a few days due to ignition barrel being replaced.  Unfortunately it has to be the one that goes with my keys and Renault have the monopoly on this.  Typically, I have been quoted 5 - 10 working days for the part which sounds like a disgrace to me.  I can't afford the time off - financially or due to work pressure.
I will probably have to rent a smaller van and rough it with backpack and barrels for a few days.

I would go with renting a small van and using water barrels and a backpack.
This is one of the reasons why I bought a backpack so that if my van with system is off the road I can still work in some capacity.

thats not a bad idea if its only a week but instead of backpack strip  hosereel, pump  and varistream from van and fashion a piece of 1/2 hose to pick up from 25l barrels im sure you could beg steal and borrow 10-15 barrels  rent mid size van from enterprise or where ever off you go.

That was my thinking too - as well as being able to get to the odd window where it's tricky to run a hose.
Anyway, I've bitten the bullet and hired a Transit 260 for the week.  It's £158 all inclusive.  I think that's an OK deal.  They didn't have a smaller van available but the Connects are the same price to hire anyway.  If I get my Trafic back a bit early I will just take their van back early too.
It's only a mile from home so I will take a stroll down there in the morning to collect it.  £8k a year without maintenance and insurance actually sounds OKish.  Obviously diesel is extra.  If it were permitted to kit out a van mount in there, I might even think about that - especially if it were possible to get an enhanced discount for long term hire.
By the time you factored in tax relief, I wonder if it might just be worthwhile.

Can't you go to auto electrician?
Perhaps they can make a temporary hot wire set up?

8k a year to rent?

Transits are 300 per month to lease?
That's 3600 per year

Mr B
If in doubt.....Leave it out !!
