easy clean

any ideas

cleaned a friends block pave drive as a demo/practice and after it was cleaned and resanded it looked like new again. 2 months later it looks terrible, weeds growing back through and sand looks all mushy when it gets wet and it just looks a bit of a mess! any ideas?????????
