I've got a massive spreadsheet with about 300 accounts on there; telephone numbers, names, dates, who owes me, remarks column for how much I've charged them in the past for add-ons, and probably other stuff.

Would I have to retype this information into George, or is there a clever way it extracts the information?

Im not a 100% sure but i think you would have to type it all in Tosh, probably take you a few hours but worth it IMO.

I don't know if the effort would be worth it; I can manipulate my spreadsheet to give me a list of debtors, or give me a list of work due, or give me a list of work by area, or find a name, or find out how much I charged five years ago for a gutter clean (so I can give a similar but increased price); and probably other stuff.

I can also e-mail it to myself once-per-week so I'll always have it, even if my computer explodes or house burns down.

thing is hank you wont save time by having a pda at work as you ll be fiddling about with it taking you longer compared to just cleaning/collecting and updating laptop/computer when you get home.mine takes 10-15 mins while  filling my van up at the end of my working day.hardly  the bane of my life!(thats the missus!) ;D ;D

also you run the risk of losing pda/damaging it or getting it stolen while out working.

Hi Dazmond.

Hank has a problem with admin and a 'partner' as you know and he is trying to find away round this, so George with a PDA could be the answer.

We don't know much about Hank but over the years we find that its easier to tick off the jobs on pocket george in the middle and end of the day before we leave to go home as we know the work we do like the back of our hands, just like you do.

My son and I do collect on Friday evenings so tick the collections off as we do them as it gets a bit of a mess at the end if we don't. What I do like about George is that we can get a report of the days work as a list and we just go through the list and confirm that the right houses have been ticked as paid even although we balanced our cash takings.

I need George as I am not computer literate as some are and can't manipulate a spreadsheet like Tosh can to get the info he wants. For us we have a PDA record of each customer we are scheduled to do 2 weeks in advance. On each customer detail on pocket george there is a notes section where you can write anything about the job, ie tops only, front only etc. We also add any internal, gutter, fascia and conservatory cleans and the price we charged which will be there for future reference if and when asked again.

The thing about window cleaning is that, although the basics of windows are the same for everyone, the way we manage it can be completely different. I always tried to manage it in such a way that if I died today, everything about each job is recorded and can be picked up by my son and whoever he gets to replace me.

Although we have our own customer base, virtually everyone of his customers know me and vice versa. But my son is a bit slack when it comes to recording additional work he has done on his PDA so I check this every day.
