do you have pump/battery spares?
« on: August 21, 2011, 08:47:38 am »
im getting a pumpbox with 100psi pump, controller, battery etc instead of having to lug a trolley in and out of my van which in all honesty is taking up too much space in the back of my small van.

i was thinking of selling the trolley but i might just take the pump and battery off and keep them as spares.

my question is ive never had a problem with my pump/battery in over 12 months but have any of you guys needed a new pump after say 2 years or so?

will a deep cycle leisure battery/pump deteriorate if i leave them in storage for a year or more?im sure having a spare pump and battery would be a good idea to minimize downtime in case of an emergency.

what do you guys have as spares?

i have spare poles,connectors,glue,tape,hose,aqua-daptors,brushes but no pump or battery at present.

best wishes to you all

ive learnt my lesson over the last few years and keep
spare foralmost everything.the shurflo on my freedom trolley
was three yrs old and going strong untill it was nicked.you
havent had yours that long so icouldnt envisage you having
problems from it in the near future.

but hey you never know! ;D

if your buying new complete pump box and you arer dismantling
your trolley i would set the bits up on a board ready! then any
probs your covered

My battery from my trolley system died this week.  Its about 17 months old. Compared to the new leisure battery I now have it was tiny!!

I've always used a "pump box" & been wfp over 7 years. I'm on my second one in all this time. Both were ready made by cleantech (who don't exist anymore).

The first one was fitted with bypass system & you controlled the flow via a lever (valve). After about 3 or 4 years it packed in. I suspect it was a simple electric problem & not the pump itself but anyway I just ordered another one.

This second one was fitted with a digital varistream & after a week of fine tuning & familiarisation made me think how I'd ever managed without it!!

Both have always been powered by the van battery via 12v cig' lighter socket but the second one with controller is MUCH easier on power consumption!

Mine are quite small, neat units & contain 100psi shurflo & strainer inside. The box itself is an electrical box (forget the name for them) but can be purchased from City Electrical Factors & the like for about £15.

Although I've bought my pump boxes ready made before, I will just make my own next time, they are very simple knock up. I like them because they are a neat fixture which can be easily taken in/out in winter. ;)

So, do I carry a spare? No, I can have all the necessary parts delivered next day.

Van mount type system but always carry my small backpack converted trolley.  Doesn't take up much space and carries enough water to do the majority of my domestics. Complete system on wheels!  Just transfer water from my main tank from the built in bilge pump.  If that fails too then gravity will do the job for me albeit a bit slower.

Also have spare basic pole just in case.  Just swap brush over if needed - nice and quick.

Peace of mind and saves a wasted journey plus retaining good service to the customer.

In 10 years I've never had to return to base and back.
