12 hour day today
« on: August 08, 2011, 08:31:16 pm »
I ache !!
Quoted over the phone on a couple of sofa'a a foot stool, and 2 bench type things, fabric was a bit like linen, got there after my first job,and well, never seen owt like it,should have known really,it's the biggest house in the village, used to be a retreat for priests.but they have spent thousands and thousands, copper sinks, most amazing kitchen I have sen, guy's were there installing the sound system, speakers in all the ceilings ,
Earned myself £400 in 4 hours, which is good going ,as normally don't hit my target on upholstery.they were over the moon, and said they looked as good as new  ;D
Think I have a customer for life there, will post up some pics of it.
Then had another job in Cambridge, which I have just got home from...
Quite a lucky escape for me today,my solution hose burst on the last job, sending black filthy liquid all over a wall,if it had gone while I was cleaning the upholstery,I would have been dead,as machine was in room with me next to them...

Pics

6 thin mattress type things, one of them turned black when I wet it,one showed up with yellow blotches all over it,went when it dried though, but was scary for a while.
The cushions had a velvet type face material on 1 side, which went a bit yellow, then went back to normal.

Cheers Paul !!

Don't think I would have saved that much time really, only used 40ltrs of solution,so no running around with buckets.
When they paid me they asked if £400 was enough !!

I said I would rather you come back to me and have me do the acres of carpets, than rip you off.
Got young kids so will probably be seeing them again soon...

Some wood solve for that floor would have been a good add on.

For Christ's sake Mark don't buy a truckmount.  With your luck it'll blow up and take you with it!!

How the hell have you managed to blow a solution hose on a portable ???

You walk round with a permanent black cloud above your head!!!  You must have walked under so many ladders whilst crossing the paths of a thousand black cats, or something! :D

Thanks !!

The hose is about 7 years old,and had perished near the connector, constantly putting the wand down, had weakened it,so I consider myself lucky it didn't go while cleaning those sofa's,gotta see the positive in the negative.
If I didn't I would probably hung myself by now   ;D

Went and had a chat with them this morning, with regard to sorting out the wood flooring for them, the builders have done some damage to it,there are some scratches,so assume this would mean it will need sanding out, which I have no experience of.
Talk to me about this wood solve product ?
Would be quite happy to strip, wax and buff the floors, but wouldn't want to practice on their flooring,as they A)_Live about 2 doors away
B)It would bankrupt me if it went wrong.
Would be happy to work alongside someone experienced and split the ££  ;D

Good job Mark. Now invest some of that money in new hoses and anything else that is not tip top.

I know we pull your leg about being unlucky but it's actually not doing preventative spending that's got you in most of your scrapes. ;)
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

Yeah accept that.
Have 2 more hoses, this was the oldest,so have started using the other 2 now,but will be getting a replacement shortly.
Been to see about getting my van sign written today, booked in tomorrow arvo,to have the back done.
The he said looking at another £120 ish for sides and front.
Need to do everything to keep the money coming in,and build up some savings,as don't have anyone to bail me out once the wife moves out.Couple of months only ticking over could potentially bankrupt me

Check the I am getting divorced post in general chat.Yeah,I /we are gutted it didn't work out,12 years together, june 15th was our 7 year wedding anniversary,my wife has changed a lot since she qualified, and everything about her has changed,we promised when we first started dating,to let each other go with kindness ,if it ever got to this point, instead of ripping each other to bit's,still love each other, but as friends now..And Jim,please don't rip me on this,I am in a lot of pain mate, she was my rock

Sorry Mark I don't read any of the other sections on this forum :(

I know I dish out a bit of banter but I wouldn't rip a guy about that mate, been through hell and back myself in the last year.  Not married/divorced and not together anywhere near as long as you but still enough to hurt like hell.

So yeah, I feel for you, chin up mate 8)

I've found the best thing to do is really get stuck into work, like paperwork, admin stuff etc. Even tidying out the shed, organising your stock, putting up those shelves you've been meaning to do for months (years in my case!)

But the temptation is to sit about and feel sorry for yourself, it's really hard to motivate yourself sometimes - I've not done much paperwork at all since June!

The worst thing to do is sit and get drunk on your own.  Sitting and getting drunk with your best mate is a different thing altogether though! ;)

Yeah she is still living here with me at the mo,sleeping on the sofa now though. We have both got a lot of very supportive friends.
I am keeping myself very busy with work, sorting out the house, and spending a bit of time looking after me,getting a bit addicted to sit ups weights and press ups, think I will have that 6 pack I always wanted soon, not drinking excessively
It will hurt a lot sorting out all our possessions, she has found somewhere close but not too close to live, moves at end sept, going to move back to her parents soon,so we can both grieve.
I have had a troubled past Jim,I was the one who pushed her into becoming a counsellor,we were told that people who finish the degree, split with long term partners, due to how much it changes you.She has said it's like seeing god.
She carries no baggage now,she has worked through all her issues, and wants to spread her wings and fly,and I can't go back on the promise we made.
But she has held my pain for me for the last 12 years,to not have someone doing that, has showed me just how damaged I really am,I can get all depressed and down about this, but I see it as a huge opportunity for self improvement,I will come out of this much much stronger, and be a better person, going to go see a counsellor myself, something I said I would never do,but it#s time for change now,and I am looking forward to releasing all the anger, pain and hurt I have carried with me since being a kid .
We connected on another level, and I want that from my next partner ,without any secrets,or stuff from my past screwing stuff up.
