debts growing?
« on: July 30, 2011, 06:51:34 am »
as window cleaners we are always owed money but as its the holiday season my debts seem to grow a fair bit more than usual.

i collect once a week from my compact estate work and i use SAE and bank transfers for a fair amount of other work.i find as my round grows with better prices so do my debts!im constantly owed a fair whack at any one time.im finding some customers dragging their heels with payments where i didnt have hardly any issues 6 months ago.im sure the rise in inflation and 20% VAT is having an effect on custies disposal income.the overall climate etc, etc.

any tips on speeding payments up?some ive just had enough off and dumped them once payments been made.big expensive cars on the drive, nice houses and no money to pay me!!luckily ive replaced them with new customers picked up over the last few weeks.normally is doesnt bother me but lately im getting a bit frustrated with late payments because of the sheer amount of it.

im still getting enough in to cover bills, tax bill etc but the "dead" money is money id rather have in my pocket than theirs!!

any of you guys experiencing problems?

regards

Do you have a " pay within 7 days " type of message on your payment slip.

Daz, it's best to keep on top of it,  regular collecting - rarely (if ever) owing more than 1 clean and giving them plenty of options to pay - cash, cheque, online banking or paypal.

for some of the out of the way custy's who are 'out' when i call we leave a letter letting them know i called and sorry
to have missed them follwed by monies due and ways to pay - then i add a hand written note asking for payment within 3 working days...

99 out of 100 payment arrives within 2 days.

new customers are politely reminded that it is payment on completion/ that day if paying online and this seems to
keep most on the straight and narrow.

firm and polite works well - otherwise it all just slides and the debt list is huge before you know it.

im thinking of changing my tickets i put through doors when their not in.at present its WINDOWS CLEANED TODAY on one side and I CLEANED YOUR WINDOWS ON -/-/-(DATE)CONTACT NUMBER AND OTHER SERVICES.

most customers know to pay by cheque/online as its already been discussed with the custy and i leave a SAE or bank details but having the option of all payments and please pay within 7 days on tickets might be the way forward.
