Cotton velvet sofa
« on: July 06, 2011, 01:09:17 pm »
What would be the most suitable method/products to clean a cotton velvet sofa. I haven't seen it as I'm yet to go and quote on the job. As far as I know HWE is not an option in this case.
Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Cheers

Yep hwe no go. good vac and spray dry clean solvent agitate and towel off and final dry vac. or best to use hot solvent machine. finally groom nap in direction of pile.

qualify with custy limited results if dirty and water based stains limited results.

A dry stiff brush on dried stains will help to loosen then vac then clean as above.

Or you could soak towels in solvent then wring then wipe over surface and a good vac to finish then groom......job done

Thanks Paul,

I was thinking of this sort of approach using dri pro. Would you recommend a certain product...something that you've had good experience with?

Cheers

I would spray it with dry pro from a hand sprayer and brush in.
Then HWE with hot acid rinse, plenty dry passes.
Towel
Spray with dry pro, brush again.
Vac off then towel again.
Brush pile
Air mover to dry.
Brush again.

Remember gloves and mask, ventilation, fish tanks off etc etc.

Emil,,,, Dri pro is as good as any, I know solvent seals the fabric but any any water for flushing off would have to be with a l/m tool and minimum passes. ultrapac is water based so a no no. I personally would stick to solvent and good vacing before and after.

ps ashbys do one for £21 + vat

Cleaning System, thanks for the advice I am just a bit worried to HWE velvet as I've done before and result was near to catastrofic :-[
Paul, I use driPro MK1, think this qualify as l/m tool.

Cheers guys

The principal of the above is that it creates a barrier for the moisture so that you can wet clean.

Natural fibres absorb water based soiling that solvent wont remove.

By doing so you can remove the oily soil with the dri pro. Then the water based soil with the acid rinse then use the dri pro to expel the moisture from the fibres with the second spray.

Emil,

Dri-pro is the way to go, spray on, brush in then towel off.

I would not use water based solutions at all. the problems with water are,

1. Pile distortion.

2. The pile fibres can harden.
