Hi guys thanks for all your comments really cheered me up  - I can not and will not let this go - I have sent her a letter saying that if I do not receive payment in the next 7 days I will take legal action. and as for the allegation it is for her to prove that I did take the money because she is the one who has made the allegation  against me.
I know she has,nt got a leg to stand on - I will let you all know how things pan out but I predict that I will get my money and there is no further movement forward on the allegation front  , it is just an injustice that I have to spend my time farting around trying to clear my name - So what have I learnt ?  As the great Maulder and Scully would say "the truth is out there - but so are the lies" or to quote Jim Morrison "people are strange"
Once again guys thanks and be careful out there !!! Gary

The fact that she stated at the time the money was gone and - Quote "is it now ok if i pay by cheque" is good evidence of her intent not to pay.....as quite rightly someone else has mentioned that at the time she wasn't making any allegation of Theft?.....what was your vibe at the time?....i get the impression she wasn't claiming you had stolen it other wise you should have stayed put and demanded the Police be called...

You can try making a complaint to the Police...she may be recorded as having done this thing before...if they take an allegation of fraud from you it may just take a call from them saying you've lodged a complaint to get you your money ... and be written off as "misunderstanding" as far as the police is concerned ... the other hand is they may see it as jsut a civil dispute of monies owed....either way i would advise lodging it with the police and it may add to your case in civil proceedings....

My brother in law has an east european girlfriend that likes a drink or 2 of vodka.
At the end of the month she is skint but this month she didnt seem to be and she had several bottles of vodka in her flat, this was after £300 went missing from his wallet. Although he was ped he knew full well you cant drink that much in 1 night, had a word with his drinking mates who confirmed he had only had the usual.
On advice he went to the police, made a statement and  who said after the Bank Holiday we will go round and speak to her, they went round and saw the now empty bottles of vodka and asked her about the money.

Evidently its her word against his, but police said we knew she had had it by the look of sheer terror on her face when they knocked on the door in full uniform!

She is now his ex, obviously, and no he didnt get his money back, but the description by the police went someway to make him feel better.

By the way Colin this is in Falmouth.

I very much doubt the police would get involved, just like they won't get involved when someone bounces a cheque on you, even though that is decption and fraud and it is illegal to issue a cheque without having the funds to cover it.
Even if the police did get involved she will say that she hasn't paid because the money went missing from her property while the cc was there. This person knows exactly what she is doing.
Let us know how it turns out.

She knows she is in the wrong and a threat to take it to the police will put the fear of god up her and should make her pay up pronto.

The guys are right about going to the police you will get no joy there also if you take out a ccj against her and judgement was made in your favour if she has history you have stuff all chance of getting your dosh and if you know any one who can do a credit check its worth the tenner because if she has got ccj's against her you will be wasting £30 for the court summons and a lot of good time in the process that you could otherwise put to use be earning by cleaning  a few more carpets (people that accumulate ccjs also normally have a history of non payment)

Some times you just have to console yourself with the old maxim of what goes round comes round because some day someone will shaft her good and proper and for the ladies listening in and I don't mean in the literal sense.

Been there seen it done it and wasted a lot of time in the process but people like her do make you angry >:(

Hi guys - up date on this - I have now logged an incident report with the cops ( by all accounts she has not reported an incident - surprise surprise ) i have sent her a text notifying her of this ( no reply as yet)
At my end I will be getting a hand held card machine which will open my options of getting paid on the day of a clean. I know cheques are still ok for a few years but if I had had a machine with me on this particular day in question I could have said "cant find cash  , no cheque book , you can pay by card madam".
Thanks for replies - be careful out there ,  its a crazy world !!!!!! Gary

Guys /girls,

Between us on this forum we must have tens of thousands of customers / completed jobs.

How many people have you had tell you where the money is BEFORE the end of the clean?

A handful? In my case, it's none in twenty years.

This "stolen money" thing is a total red herring. She did not intent to pay for the work, full stop.

She has probably done this many times before because people could not be bothered to do anything about it..

Hi Garry 22 - she told me the money was in the bedside cabinet once the clean was finished and I handed her the invoice - but as my Mrs said (and women do seem to be cute this way shall we say) - if I was going to steal some money I had come across ( say a wad of 20s)  it would be pretty dumb to nick the whole lot - you would nick a couple of 20s and put the rest back - nope the woman in question is a blagger and she may have done it before but I would never dream of letting this go - where would you draw the line- being a carpet cleaner is a trusted role and if you lose your integrity you might as well give up and become a politician or a newspaper editor or something where honesty is not so important (  satire that what the world needs now)  Be careful out there Gary

Hi Gary,

Theres an online company that specialise in recoving debts, i cant remember the name at the mo but will have a look, you can pay just a few pounds for them to send a letter on your behalf that looks the part and is from a proper firm of solicitors,

I used it once about two years ago for a company that wouldnt pay up and i had the money by the end of the week,  it was just enough to put the frighteners on them, which might be all you need to get paid.

For a few pounds its worth a try,

Ill post the name if i can find it  ::)

Gary,

Your reputation is worth everything, so go cause her so much aggro as possible.

If she's got form, it would make a good press release... "Local Carpet Cleaner Exposes Fraudster" etc.

Hope it turns out OK.

First, don't take it personally and ignore all what she has said and any rhetoric or avoidance. It's just game playing.

You have done the job and have not been paid.

If you have given her notice of 7 days, stick by it.
Next, send her a letter, email or text, that you will be taking legal action forthwith without notice that could affect her credit rating if you do not recieve monies owed within the next 7 days.

This type of baich soon jump, believe me, I'v had a few (not many) ;D let em know your not fookin about.
