Sticking pole section
« on: June 09, 2011, 12:23:03 pm »
1st section on my clx is driving me mad. Sticking is putting it mildly. I have to twist it to get it extended. Am constantly cleaning it thoroughly with a dry cloth, but no great improvement.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the joint stop tape is sticking for some reason, perhaps it has become damaged or has got caught up. To sort this out please follow the instructions below:

1. Open up clamp lever and remove lever arm assembly from the appropriate clamp.
2. Prise open the clamp jaws and pull the sticking section out completely.
3. Remove the damaged joint stop tape and clean and dry the base of the section.
4. Re-apply the joint stop tape. To do this use good quality electrical insulation tape and wrap about one and a quarter wraps of it around the section at the correct place.
5. Prise open the clamp jaws and very carefully insert the pole section.
6. Re-assemble lever and tighten back up.

This should sort the problem out. If upon opening the section up it is not the joint stop tape causing the issue, it will probably be dirt jammed between the sections, which can be cleaned out before re-assembling.

I've had 2 seize. I followed Alex's advice last time and it's easy once you have managed to prise the section out!!
