Anyone use roof bars for poles?
« on: May 17, 2011, 12:20:53 pm »
Up until now I've just carried the 2 sets of poles internally on one side wall of the transit van. Just got a new van that has a side door on both sides so I'm reckoning it'll probably make life easier if I carry the poles on the roof instead, as then it doesn't matter which side of the road the custie is on.

Does anyone carry their poles on the roof and if so how do you secure them so that they don't fall off?

Cheers

Rob

I use bungee. The pole hose shuts in the doors without a problem.
if it is dirty it is fair game

Roofbars for poles? You could probably use a Brodex pole as a roofbar.

Tomorrow, I will buy 2 metres of downpipe. Cut a couple of notches in it, where the bunges will go over it. (To stop the downpipe slipping off,  When  tied  to the roof bars.
Put the pole in there.  (Sorted).

I hope ;D

i carry 3 poles on roof /1 lenth of 68 mm the slx just fits in this/2 lenths next size up cant remember longer thicker poles fit in these .i used the upvc downpipe brackets one at each end .i connected these to the bars with 4 jubilee clips, this gives enough height to open back doors and no bungee ropes :)

I don't have time to sneeze at the moment, work has gone crazy the last few weeks.

I will try it with brackets this weekend.  It would be great if I knew where to get some metal brackets from.

i personally dont think the bungee method on the normal roof rack with ladders looks too safe! ;D ;D ;D

do any of you use proper roof bar carriers and how do you stop the poles from falling out when driving between jobs?(with brushes left on)?

been using downpipe for 18mths now & no probs but pole that sticks out is bungeed to a ladder thats always on rack  but i dont leave it in at night. but you can get pipe tube carriers like bt or plumbers use for around £100 or so & they're lockable you just have to cut a slot for pole neck i'm gonna get 1 its just getting round to it   - it might be open reach vans that have 'em not bt
