how much did you earn from your 2hrs 45 mins?

I made £33.50 for those two houses, not bad, but that's bcause some tips been added.

If you had more to clean and put a good long day in you are nearly hitting £100 so have a good long think who else might give you £100 for the day as a beginner.

right, first post after lurking - hello everyone  ;D
Advice?.....
Practice practice and more practice - and then read read read. Tons of good advice on the forums, and the more you read the sooner you can spot mistakes you may be making or avoid making them in the first place. Sometimes one bad review of a technique or bit of kit is an opinion, ten bad reviews is usually fact.
Dog-ear your channels.
Use an old washing-up bottle filled with suds so you dont have to carry a bucket round all the time.
Get a pole from a diy shop to stop you over-reaching on ladders .
Get wfp as soon as you can, but remember that not every window wants to be wfp'd, so back to practice with the trad gear  ;D
Be uber nice to people at first and accept that to get a good customer base you'll have your share of muppets you can sack-off as soon as you are more established. And when you do sack 'em, never take them back, they've missed their chance of a quality cleaner  ;D
Be pleasant to other window cleaners - the scowling, puffed-up, chest-thumping gorilla can usually be confused with a smiling, happy attitude. And he'll look a right tool if he blusters and rants and you're dead calm, especially in public. But take up running/self defence just in case  ;D
Practice some more.
And then keep reading.
And keep your books as good as you can so if Mr Tax sniffs around you can explain every last penny... as far as you want too  ;)
Hope this helps. I'm off to do more reading before doing my mums windows. On Easter Sunday. Saddo......  ::)

Very good tips, thought I was one of the very few who use the bottle. Saves dragging 10 ltres of water around all the time.

Good post.

Cheers Cozy, although credit for that must go to Wagga - I used to be the bucket monkey for another window cleaner who was firmly stuck in the bucket/sponge/shammy camp and I learned the hard way with tennis elbow & shoulder problems. Lucky I found that there t'internet and sites like this. Result? Working wfp and trad on my own, no pains, more cash, more spare time and I dont have to listen to the wierd rantings of my last employer/exploiter  ;D
Believe me, he was ODD

and a bl00dy miser  ;D

We're all odd, just some hide it better than others.  Fact!  Carl Jung (a famous 'trick cyclist' (psychiatrist) said something like, "Show me a sane man and I'll cure him!"

Oh he hid his ODD very badly ha ha! We're all on that "spectrum" somewhere but he was riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight over by the nutbags  :P
Only ever did the same things week in week out, no variation. Change was baaaaaad! ha ha! Picked arguments over politics with custies then ranted when they fired him off, moaned that he found 3 custies for his builder, then ranted when the builder didnt give him £50 for the referrals. And charged £4.50 for  four bed leaded detached with a conservatory type houses, and £4.50 for a 3 bed dorma semi.

NUTBAG!
