Hi guys,

Just want to know the best/easets way to clean wodden decking.I havent done it before but am getting alot of enquiries about it and am not gonna turn the work away. Obviously we all have to learn sometime, so any help would be great. I figure the pressure is an issue when working with wood. Does temp make a difference? Pre spray with any chemicals?

And i know ill have to re oil it after its dry. any specific oil? apply wth a brush like normal?

hi matt    firtsly leave your tubo lance at home
  i have success whith a wheeled 12inch fsc whith 30deg+ fan jets fitted    water broom  and fan jet lance    be carefull with the spindles   some times they use soft wood
mostly i find they are badly fitted next to wood panel fences      they wont leave a drip or drain gap  this causes a capillery action   this creates algae   dont worry about it cos you wont get all of it   cos the root is green and in the wood      bang a few copper pin nails in  and drill a few small drain holes
this one job i know where flow rate is king to pressure    follow the grain and never cross it
when it comes to re oiling   i use a damp meter to check it first  then put a blower over it  cos you will find a lot of sawdust   and i only use a sprayer to apply the oil   hope this is helpfull
by all means use hot water   but you will leave a skate park behind

Cheers for the reply mate. I had a bit of a search on here and read up on a few other posts. So basically just go along the planks lengthways? cause if you were to cut across the planks, i figure it would hack the wood apart. You ever use any chems first? or just hit it straight with the washer?

Yes follow the planks and dont expect it all to come up as good as new,it does leave a green tint in some places.

hi matt   useing chemicals prior to washing  in my opinion should go down 48hrs before washing  subject to what they are and what you hope to achive
i might add chemicals after washing on to the damp surface depending on the customers needs
only wash surfaces after wetting     and allow 30min dwell time depending on conditions

A weak solution of Citric Acid will help to 'brighten up' old greyed timbers. Most important 0 - it is a non hazardous way of cleaning your deck. There are also some proprietary brands of wood bleach available, that will do the job.

Well, Cleaned my first lot of wooden decking today. All went well, I was panicing about messing it up, but it wasnt too bad.
