Trying to save a contract.

Its funny is it not?

You work really hard on some contracts and just don't seem to be able to win. One small contract that we have had for several years and are good little payers.

Over the years they have grown in size and have extra staff and with this more desk, bins, more cups, more washing up I am sure you get the picture.

The standard of cleaning has always been great and I mean great. However it has been rather difficult the last 6 months as they have increased in size and altered the layout with partitions etc. However we stayed and cleaned.

We have done everything we could and informed them we needed more time due to size increase, layout etc.

Today we find out that they have received cleaning quotations for (EXTRA TIME) 3 days instead of 2 days. We suggested we would need 3 days. But they turned us down - and like I said they have received quotations for 3 days which is more expensive than ours.

We also have given them free window cleaning and recently offered free carpet cleaning just to maintain a good standard. 

Yet they are wanting a change!

I guess there are times when no matter what you do you will always lose the odd customer no matter what.

I am certain that if any company did a site inspection they would have found the cleaning faultless. We have also never missed a day. Even in the snow.

Sorry to here about your problem Dave.

Some people just get something in their mind and will just pursue it no matter what.

I had a window cleaning customer earlier in the year who took on another window cleaner just because "they wanted a change"... There was absolutely nothing wrong with our standard of window cleaning - They had been a customer for 4 years with no complaints.

Have they had a change in personal as this sometimes happens?

Hi Len,

Yes they have had a change in personnel. As said they have grown in the number of staff.

Never mind - Luckily its not like I need the work. Plenty of that luckily. But it just niggles me as we were great there.

Also it always felt that we got on with everyone and also had a laugh - even though the cleaning was out of hours staff stayed late.

Ill just add here they were unaware until today - that we knew that they had received other quotes.

I wont divulge how we knew they got quotes. We have written direct to the director. We may or may not get a response and we have not been given notice yet.

Hi, you may find they'll come back to you. 

Sometime after using a company for long periods they need to evaluate whether they could get better value on the open market and will shop around for prices.  After their analysis they may stick with what they have if they are happy with performance and price.  A lot of companies do this to show that they are competitive and it demonstrates best practice.

Let's hope this is the case. 

If this is not the case and they are looking to replace you they may be something they are not happy with.  You may want to conduct you own company performance survey and give it to management & staff (after seeking permission) explaining it is something you do to monitor your companies performance to aid training etc.,  this will then give you some insight not only on your performance but how that client sees you.
