Does anyone use managed placement in adwords? its great for hitting niche markets.

OK i will explain

here is a site that fits my business. it has adwords at the top of the page. By using adwords placement i can get my advert on this page that people that are in my target will read.

its called message to market match

with the problems with local search now this gets around it

I take it this is paid for advertising as opposed to normal google searches and the maps thingy.

So can you tell me what your ROI is on this method and how long you have been running it?

so if you do PPC  and use the correct words you can get onto the google listings on this page.

2 problems I can see,

1 this is a national website you might get interest from out side your target area unless you set your geographical area to within 10miles.

2 you are targeting a niche market within a niche market. you are aiming for people who at that time of reading that site are by coincidence  also are looking for a carpet cleaner.

you could get the problem that people will click just out of curiosity but are not in the market for carpet cleaner so it cost you money.

but this is all speculation on my part... it might work

mike its very similar to PPC but instead of search results youappear on others websites, you can pick and choose which sites google will place your adds on so for instance you could just target local sites like the pizza shop (not that that would work) up the road or the towns laundrette etc... its also a lot cheaper than PPC as you can usually get placed for around 20 to 50p.

oh and one more point, it doesn't work.

allthough i'm sure ian will say.....

like most people say on here, natural listings work and thats about it. even ian admitted on another thread that since google changed its formula its hit him  hard.

I had an e mail a while ago (sadly deleted now) about some software that could tell you how much targeted traffic a placement site was getting.

You could do all the testing before you thought about placing you ads.

It does work in many niches, Derek but not necessarily in local carpet cleaning (as per Mike's post above).

I have not used it myself so I could not say for sure if it would for us. It should however, be a lot cheaper than normal adwords.

As it's part demographic understanding I would have thought Facebook would be a good place to test cheap. You won't get the volume from a few designated sites. I think some internet people take global stuff and think it applies to local and it doesn't always.

Also the key thing is this change to search integrating Google Places information. S0D Google I'll just make sure I'm No1 on that too, not shelling out cash for them bvggers. Now how do I do that?

you right that these site would be national but if you set you area on the campaign local then anyone in your area viewing these sites would see your advert. so even if it was a dot com it will still work, as information is information not matter where it comes from.

Also as I have allways said why are people have carpets cleaned? new born's, pet owners, movers are all groups of people will reasons. plus you only have to ask your customers.

its adwords that you tell where you want your advert to show on google networks. these are sites like one of mine that i earn money from by having adverts from google and amazon

I would love to share results but as this is an open forum that's not possible. I post this stuff because I like to help others that might be in the same boat as me. Many like me have spent time and money on google to get natural listing top placement only to have google change the rules and wipe it all out.

Its my view that facebook is having a big impact on google so they are looking for ways to get more money in. by putting the natural listings below the fold of the page this takes money away from companies making money from SEO to adwords. Cleaver I would say.

I see Ian.

I had a look at potential target sites and none of them accepted display ads. Is there a way in adwords of finding sites that may be suitable or can you only exclude ones you defo don't want?
