For those of you who harvest rain water, Have you got any pics of your different set ups? What do you use to filter it? What is needed and any other info would be appreciated, Its a route I would like to go down if I have enough space and if results are guaranteed.

Cover the filler or wherever the water goes in the tank with a piece of mesh. Which in turn is covered with a lining taken from old pair of tights or stocking net. No need to filter the water any further. Just run it straight into barrels or van tank.

Depends:-

My 50 year old asbestos garage roof!  Which I don't use for wfp comes out at about 18ppm.

My 2 year old conservatory roof comes off at 5ppm.

But if you get the sort of rain that leaves smudgy light brown marks on cars when it dries the ppm can be higher.

I mainly use mains water, but take some 25L barrels from the roof from time to time.

I use rainwater, I have 4 IBC's (4000L) connected to about 80m of guttering on a barn. The downpipes have debris stoppers placed in them.  The roof is not the cleanest and the water in the tanks reads 30-35. The tanks are situated in the the upstairs of the barn and so it gravity feeds into the van. In the van the water runs through a 3x20"filter unit from VYair products, then twin 11L DI's. Have been using this setup for just over 12 months, not changed the resin - TDS still reads zero. I have never run out of stored water.  However my usage of water each week varies, some weeks its 500L another week it could be 2000L.
I will get some photos on for you of the tank setup in the next couple of days when I go top back up.

Rainwater can vary, but it's a good idea to have water from the van tank going through DI.

Sounds an ideal set up John Matthew - and welcome to the forum. Is it an old tiled traditional barn roof or a prefabbed one with asbestos substitute/industrial roof?

Its a 20 year old barn. Its got corrugated style sheets, not asbestos but similar looking. We just had solar panels fitted to it and the fitters had to get it tested for asbestos content before drilling into it!
