Help me with Excel Spreadsheet Please!!
« on: October 11, 2010, 11:40:31 am »
Hi
I've been asked to send some information via email on an 'Excel Spreadsheet'. I have no experience of using these. I have microsoft office it does give me the option to create an excel spreadsheet which I created on Friday (I thought)! now gone back into it to add more details & I'm not able to amend it saved it as a word doc. Do I need another programme ? Please help step by step idiot proof instructions would be great! ???
Thanks again
Barbara

I always find someone aged 13-17 is the best type of person to ask, they can always do these things in seconds for a fiver, the dont often talk , and next time you need something doing you will have forgotten.

Its only a copy. You will need excel to edit it. You will have to amend on the original and make another excel file from  it.

Just save excel sheets in the default .xls format - why save in word document??

If you need to send to someone you send as an attachment to your email, that way they can open it as a spreadsheet too.

You complicating things unnecessarily, and life is complicated enough.

Barbara there's loads of free help on the net if you do a bit of googling.  But even before that, the help on the program itself is pretty good. Microsoft website might be a good start otherwise ;)

Morning Barbara

I realise this is adding an extra step, but it is always wise to send such information in a pdf file. this way the other person has the information but can't alter it in any way. being a cynic somebody who may wish to make mischief could amend your spreadsheet for their own ends and then you would have no way of proving exactly what you did send them.

Just a thought and if you rrequire further help then post again.

Cant you lock a spreadsheet before you send it so it then becomes read only - just a thought

Yes, and password protect it, but a pdf is more certain to remain unaltered
