Yes you clean the tops......!

We had a call from a client, asking us if we would rectify an issue that was previously done by another company who said they clean ovens.

We would have had the job in the first place but it was out of our catchment area so hence they contacted another firm.

Guess what they did not clean the top. So all the burnt soiling was dropping from the top onto the food in the oven. Not good.

Also they did not wash out all of the chemical used. So there was a smell.

Tips, get a scraper a long bendy one, or if you can remove the grill element which is fairly simple on most ovens

Hi there,

Yes we clean the tops or ceiling or whatever you want to call it. On most ovens it is a case of just unlatching the element on each side and then bending it down so that you can get your hand up there and scrape it with a scraper. You might think I'm crazy but I've been doing this for years and we haven't had any problems with this - we've cleaned 15,000 + ovens.

On some you need to remove screws to get the element down and on a few they have an element you can just pull out - though I haven't seen one of these for ages. If you can't get the element down then its a case of using a stainless steel scourer through the gaps in the grill element. On an electric grill we stop the grill itself from smoking by turning the grill on and burning the grease off.

You were unlucky as a gas ceiling is not easy to clean. I tend to clean the enamel on either side of the oven up the sides of the burner and then just rub over the burner unit itself.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Graham
