3 piece suite
« on: September 19, 2005, 08:48:34 pm »
I have a 3 piece to clean its white 75% cotton 25% acrylic. when i tested it the acid rinse browned it. the customer washed one cushion cover and it shrank. my normal methods are fabric restorer rinsed with fabric and fibre rinse or prochem fabric and fibre shampoo foamed and agitated by hand and either vacced when dry or rinsed with fabric and fibre rinse. do you think the browning will dissapear as it dries? any advise as to how i should approach it?   many thanks     ollie

Hi ......the same thing happened to me, it was light cream with a delicate short bobble pile. Nothing on the backing to indicate a problem. however my one had a small percentage of viscose in it. To solve the brown marking I very carefully wiped the fabric with a slighty moistened towel (just water)

Play safe dry clean only, why it browned with acid rinse is a mystery ???

Cheers Paul

Olie,

When you say the acid rinse browned the fabric are you talking about when it was wet?

Was the cushion which had been washed browned?

I suspect the answers are yes and no which means this fabric is unlikely to brown and just goes a darker colour when wet.

Cheers,

Doug

Thanks for your replies.
Doug it isnt brown where its been washed. What im going to do is do an inconspicous area first with permission and see what happens. I suspect what you say is correct.
Thanks     ollie

Ollie,

I would use the driest possible wet cleaning method, which for me is foam based such as prochems fibre shampoo, this helps prevent browning. (subject to testing of course.)

Sounds like Haitian cotton,

you must use the appropriate solution on this kind of suite failure to do so could end in you owning it.

Haitian Cotton cleaning solutions are available from most suppliers, Prochem,Chem-Spec Alltec etc.
