Building a round with out stepping on others toes!
« on: July 13, 2010, 12:43:58 pm »
Ok so in my area there are many cleaners http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=window+cleaners+cornwall&sll=40.203404,-98.181036&sspn=34.746326,79.013672&ie=UTF8&hq=window+cleaners&hnear=Cornwall,+United+Kingdom&ll=50.229638,-5.130615&spn=0.434859,1.234589&z=10

I was wondering how i should go about it i will eventually when i get the funds want to start building my round but obviously don't want to p**s other cleaners off.

I was thinking of offering cleaning mainly in Redruth and Camborne but would do work in other areas down here.

Should i stick to a small area?
Should i offer a big area like Redruth, Camborne, Truro, Helston, penzance etc etc?

How do i go about setting up a round without annoying other cleaners for instance a see a couple of cleaners once in a while in and around Redruth so should i avoid this whole area or should i just go for it and hope i don't get in there way?

None of us own our customers houses or streets, when i first started i just used to leaflet drop large areas and if they already have a good window cleaner i wouldnt get any calls but if a cleaner had packed up or was unreliable i might get some new work! i would never undercut another cleaner or advertise "cheapest quote Guaranteed" as i feel this is unfair and you may get a broken nose from another cleaner!
Good luck matey get some flyers done i always print them off my PC and get walking! i started with no round and now have 400 + and employ 1 person and make a good living.

Thanks for the reply and encouragement. As soon as I figure out funding equipment I will most definitely be out with leaflets. Totally agree with not undercutting there is just no point, if we all did it we would end up ruining the w/c business.

If youre going to start traditionally you wont need much i got everything off ebay, even my ladders were 2nd hand and i still use them every day i reckon i didnt spend more than £150 to get set up,
Good luck to you and let us know how youre getting on
