Door knocking - when is the best time ?
« on: July 06, 2010, 12:03:26 pm »
I find Knocking on peoples door's very time consuming but extremely productive, direct contact is the best approach. I generally go out in the morning Mon to Fri knocking and if I dont get an answer drop a leaflet through the door, I guess most people will bin them or ponder too long then loose the leaflet, a small minority will keep them to call you later then misplace the damn thing altogether. I was wondering if it would be better knocking on a saturday and sunday as the majority of people will be in to answer the door, if anyone has advice on timely door knocking I'd sure appreciate it.

Saturdays I would say is fine, but I think knocking on peoples doors on a Sunday is a big no no...what time are you canvassing?

I would say between 5 and 7 in the evening would be good?

Another good tip is to do a leaflet drop first, then call back a day or so later and say something like.." Hello, I dropped a leaflet in the other day and was wondering if you were interested in my services"??

I had a job for a brief spell canvassing for TalkTalk and we canvassed from 2pm to 8pm monday to saturday. I would imagine that a large company like that will have sussed out the best times to do ity and come to that conclusion.

We had some bloke knocking on our door a couple of nights ago about 9.30 in the evening asking whether we wanted to change our electricity supplier.

The point is, no matter how good the deal was at that time of night I wasn't interested in listening. I actually am very hostile to people who knock on my door, it never works with me.

You would think I would be more sympathetic but I'm not really.

Thanks for your views, I always tend to keep away from notes on doors saying dont knock or signs with Beware dog, too much hassle and grief and not worth it, I went out for 1.5 hours today on one big street and managed to pick up two customers who want regular cleans plus 3 other possibles, a good ratio I thought. Does anyone know where I can purchase window cleaning trousers, also where can I get a polo shirt screen printed with window cleaner or the likes on, any specialst suppliers of these about ??

i do evenings from 6 til 7.30 - 8 tops.

monday thru friday.  and sundays from 10 am to 12.30 ( people start having lunch )

best times is usually sunday - people very relaxed and seem open to an 'onest 'ardworkin chappie looking
for business.

evenings usually ok   -   but found saturdays waste of time - people out shopping or whatever.

Doing this job (as i am sure you have found) I am amazed just how many people are in in the day during the week.As for not knocking where it says no door knockers etc etc, do not worry about that, I never had any trouble when i went door knocking. We are window cleaners, not pushy salemen. People seem genuinly ok when they find that out

The best time is when they are at home.Thats anytime. So of the best results have happened while I am cleaning in the area.I never pass a potential customer in a area I would want more business with out a chat. If I think someone is home,I knock. Even on the off chance.

Best times on a week day are...

11am - 3pm (the mums have done their shopping after dropping the kids off and at 3pm are going to pick them up)

6pm - 8pm people are home from work, though you may get some who are eating, but they just say sorry were eating... Give them a leaflet andf say your sorry.
Only those who risk going too far will truly know how far they can actually go
