We seem to be OK in Derbyshire (Severn Trent Water) 81.6% overall with 2 of the Dewent res at just over 50%.

I think you only need to wory when a drought order comes in. That said it doesn't look good if customers cant use water and we do.

There was a hosepipe ban in my part of the southeast several years ago.  One of my customers moaned saying that she didn't see why I could clean windows with WFP when she couldn't water her garden with a hose.  I asked her if she would become bankrupt and homeless if she couldn't water her garden.  She never moaned again

it wont efect business's! we still have to earn a living hosepipe ban or not! what about garnden centres? what about farmers fields with sprinklers?

what about car valeting bays? what about car washes? i can give you endless examples! if you want more just ask please!

I thiunk the only company that did that was Sutton and East Surrey water (the ones that supply my business water).  Even then, they only closed the car washes that didn't have a recycling unit.

From what I understand the hosepipe ban order is now called a drought order.
The argument WFP users can use is the fact that WFPer's use tap water as a raw product.
As we change the state of the water before we use it we are exempt.

rang united utillities today 0845 746 2200 told the lady we fill a tank in the van via a hosepipe then clean the windows via hose pipe and brush, and we dont pay commercial water rates she said because we are a bussinesss we can use it. i said some customers will say we should not be using it , but she said the call is now logged and we have permission and to tell them to ring this number if anyone complains

I cant help but think about trips abroar to Egypt where it pretty much never rains..... They desalinate the sea water and have spriklers running the whole time in hotels etc. Is this really beyond one of the richest coutries on the planet???

Why would we want to desalinate the water?

We rarely have water usage restrictions in this country.

Are you prepared to pay the extra cost involved so you can water your garden throughout the summer when we would otherwise have a hose-pipe ban? You do realise that it is about 40-50 times more expensive to desalinate water and treat it compared to how we source our existing water; and then we'd end up just using it to flush turds round the u-bend. Still wanna pay for it?


The vast majority of Egypts water comes from the Nile, its the second biggest river in the world.

Hotels and resorts on the Red Sea do de-salinate their water, but the holiday makers pay for that (that'll be us then) not the locals.


It reminds me of the arguements some people made in the winter when we had 3 feet of snow and people were moaning that countries like Canada get 4 times as much snow as we got but they still manage to get about. Thats because they get snow of that depth every year and so are geared up for it. We could invest in that kind of kit (£350,000 snow ploughs) and use them once every 20 years.

Then who would be moaning?

youll be the one moaning if next winter you end up in a
ditch if there is no snow plough available to clear the road.

i would happily pay for desalination and snow ploughs if needed
rather that than some pointless war in afghanistan thats costing
us the tax payer billions every year.

a country such as ourselves should be as prepared as possible
the couple of months of bad weather we had this year cost our
economy billions and if we did have a bad drought again money
to the country would be lost again.

small extra cost per person im happy with especially if we dont
have to put with constant posts about the winter and the possibility
of not working in the summer if it gets a little warm
