What a cheek....
« on: September 15, 2005, 04:58:31 pm »
Hi

A woman rang the other evening saying she is interested in having her windows cleaned. I said we'll come over, have a look and give her a quote, "can't you do a quote over the phone" she says I've only got 4 at the front 4 at the back and a conservatory. Anyway, I politely said no as I would need to see it first, then she said ok and gave her address then she said do you think it would be more than £5.00, I said it would then she said oh! it's ok I've been told there is another window cleaner who charges £5.00 a house I'll try and contact him first. Curiosity got the better of me so I drove past the next day. Yep! she had 4 at the front 2 big bays and 2 big windows above and that's without seeing the conservatory. The woman is having a 'turkish'. Why is there such a misconception about window cleaners? One thing is for certain I will definitely be educating all our existing and future customers that we offer a proper and professional service not just windows but uPVC and gutter cleans and whereby we expect to earn a reasonable living. That woman really jarred me off, anyway rant over.  :-))

Hi Steve,

I have had a few like that mate. I don't waste my time with them.

I was cleaning a house last week and this woman came over and asked me, 'how much to do the tops'. I asked her how many windows she had; the reply was seven I think. Well I informed her I would have to charge a minimum of £12, she went white and walked off mumbling under her breath. It doesn't bother me, lol.

I also took on another new customer a couple of days ago and half way through the clean, she asked me why she is getting charged more than her neighbour. I explained, if she would have replied to the flyer she would have received a discount like her neighbour

Hi

I'm not a window cleaner and not qualified to give an accurate opinion on prices. But we've had the same window cleaner for several years and he does a brilliant job cleaning only the front of our house. Dont laugh lads but he charges us £2.50  for 2 big bay windows the box room window and our porch which has 3 big panes plus he always wipes the panes down.

For many years I've always thought of being a window cleaner and apart from the danger aspect of it one thing that put me off was his prices. The way I looked at was if I were doing his job I would need to do 40 houses to earn a meagre £100. Until I stared reading the prices some of you charge, which by the way I think is fair there was no way I was going to climb a ladder for that!!

Respect to all you guys, a window cleaner I met a few weeks back, who was kind enough to recomend me to do a driveway  fell of his ladder in North London recently and broke his back. Feel gutted for him especially as it happened two days befor his holiday.
