Gota fish tank heater in van, 200w. Opened van this morning and load of water came out of drivers door. Looked in tank and heater had come off the side and was laying on the bottom of tank. would it be hot enough to burn hole through tank? cant find one, but I also slackned pump outlet just in case it froze, so any drips could have built up over 14 hrs.

I know that Matt on the cleaning forums ( google : cleaning forum matt ) is using a Aquarium heater, his just sits in the bottom of the tank.

He has a post about it and worked when it was -4 with the water.

It will not bern a hole through your tankthe cold water would prevent it melting.I have had a 300 watt in a tank for 2 years no probs.

Did you fit the plastic guard on it to prevent it touching the tank plastic ?

It is necessary to follow all instructions given by the seller or given by enclosed guidelines that can be found in the heater package. Basically, if your fish tank heater is fully submersible, then you're allowed to place it anyhow, but bear in mind that the water flow must reach the heater in order to distribute the heat. If your heater comes with thermostat, then make sure that you can easily modify desired temperature.
