Adding value with other services
« on: May 29, 2010, 03:30:39 pm »
Hi

Began planning my cleaning business about a year ago although started first contracts only 3 months ago now, so a real newbie. Have mainly residential custy's and a two commercial contracts maybe a third soon.

My residential custy's are spending x amount per year on cleaning services which includes; weekly/fortnightly house cleans, windows, carpets & upholstery, oven and fascias and soffits. Do you offer the whole package or focus on a single service.

I've got some custy's who began with regular house cleans or windows but I've since done their oven and some carpets while others looking into fascia's and soffits.

What are your thoughts or experience on offering a package of services?

Comments welcome - thanks

Grant

Hi there

adding value by cross selling, other products and services is a great to increase profitable revenue for little extra resource.

especially in commercial, the supply of the washroom supplies, as an example.

you can then expand upon that by subbing out the sani bins, and dust control mats to one of the big boys.

although clients fall in to a number of different groups, one group being those that will be more than happy to take as many services and products as they can from one supplier, therefore they get one invoice and only have to pay one supplier, and the other group where they are more than happy to share out among a whole group of suppliers.

the benefit of you supplying a range of sevice and products, means that you have a commanding position and relationship with the client, therefore any body else quoting for the work will need to try and match the services that you provide.

however the add on services that you provide to domestic cleints and commercial clients differ, purely by the nature of the client.

On the other hand and to present the opposite point of view. Don't start going off at tangents. Concentrate 100% on building your core business. Otherwise you end up doing a bit of this and a bit of that but not much of anything.

hi there

vince, i fully agree, at the outset you need to focus on one area, that maybe domestic or commercial, but rarely the two together from day one., however ran correctly domestic and commercial cleints can sit well together, especially for the requirements of cashflow demand.

then when you have the core business in place, and usually as a result of customer demand you can then provide the add on services.

as once you have these, you then have a portfolio to offer as opposed to solely one service or product.
