I had a parking ticket the other day when setting up for graffiti removal. I was parked on double yellow lines whith two wheels on the curb.
There was nowhere else to park the area that was safe or legal, but i needed to park close enough to the affected area.

Do you think it is worth fighting it or should i just pay the £30.

If it's just £30 I'd probably pay it and add it in the bill...

But I know how frustrating it can be, I tried to work from the back  of my van using my oven dip tank in Truro, the Traffic Warden told me I didn't need to work from the back of my van and she would issue me with a ticket, £70 The nearest parking was out of site and the dip tank uses a naked flame, I told her of the health and safety implications of leaving a van, unattended with a burner heating the solution up.... "I don't care, it's not my problem!" was her reply.... Mine was "Ok, thanks for losing me business!" And I drove off and left my customer to clean their own oven....

Fight it , give reasons  and you will not have to pay . I fought one in leeds  , while cleaning blood from a shop floor left by a shoplifter, got a nice letter back saying sorry to have  given you a ticket!

If it was me, I'd fight it; I don't think you're going to succeed in your appeal but if you follow the process all the way up to the PATAS (Parking and Traffic Appeals Service) you'll make the council work for their money. I'm with the first poster; I despise traffic wardens and have no sympathy for the argument that they're just doing their job since they had to apply for it in the first place.

Naturally there should be a system of controlling the way people park their vehicles, but when it's clear, as now, that the infringement is for a lawful activity rather than someone not wanting to walk 50 yards to the shop, there appears to be no room for officer discretion, allowing for the possibility that they would use it,

I'd fight it all the way to the european court of human rights, say the traffic warden was rude and not at all courtious but most of all unreasonable to a humble person such as yourself. Argue the point that you are only complaining for the wardens benefit as you feel some retraining may be needed because a less reasonble person may well have harmed the warden, you are prepared to treat the incident as an isolated one provided the fine is withdrawn. Photocopy the ticket and put it through your books and then if you win the case you will also get the tax back on it

Fight It

they have instructions to issue a denial letter without even reading the details of your claim

Then they are instructed to issue their second letter denying your appeal and "scaring" you into your fine doubling

the third letter you send is accepted over 70% of the time

It is a cost saving exercise, no staff costs to read the many appeals and they feel if you go to the trouble of writing three times you must have a case so they pay out.

I always complain even if i deserved the ticket and out of the last 32 fines our vans and I have received I have only paid twice

Thats why you see so many courier vans in London with Polish number plates.

I'm not entirely sure about this but any van which is supplying a service from it via a hose has some limited immunity (this was told to me by a guy who delivers heating oil and I believe he is right) but you can't expect a thick as a brick parking warden to know about it.

I have suggested before that somebody, perhaps one of the trade organisations should look into this and publish the details. It would greatly help any appeal if you could quote chapter and verse back to them.

Hey Colin, do you never leave your van unattended with the tank heating up then?

how about this then
got done 60 quid and 3 point for having a fella in the back of the van
hold my hands up no problem
paid the 60 over the phone and went to the local filth station and produced my licence
signed a bit of paper and the piglets book and off i went
this was november
got a letter 2 weeks ago saying i had not produced my licence and they have refunded my 60 quid and i was not to do anything else as they are taking me to court
