moving into a stinky house soon (well we have keys but we're working on it atm) and would like some advice as to how to get rid of the horrible stale smell it has. we've cleaned the rooms over and over and it's helping but i'd like to try something to make it smell nicer

anyone any tips what we could do? the carpets will be cleaned once the bathroom is finished so hopefully that should help, as well as the walls being painted, but it's things like cupboard and wardrobes which seems to be holding the smell.

Ground coffee is good in cupboards and drawers.  Put in bowls and leave overnight. 

Or you could try bowls of baking soda (kim and aggie do this I think).

Hi

An old clean towel in the bath and pour over Listerine and leave overnight.

For the cupboards you can use Sta Kill odour remover, works very well or spary with anti microbial and leave to dry.

if its the carpets that smell, try prochems clensan, spray down about an hour before cleaning them.

Ozone generator - once everything has been cleaned then use an ozone generator which naturally bleaches the bacteria that causes the smell - the old wives cures are cheaper if you don't know of anyone with an ozone m/c

if you have access to a fogger or an Ozone machine then these will do the job but price makes them cost prohibitive.

Three parts.  Take lid of wc cistern - remove black mould.
Take lid off coldwater feed tank remove dead seagull.

Ozone blast.

I got an odourtek fogger and enough chem for it for 69 quid off ebay a couple of months ago ,, great peace of kit ,, definately not a toy , have used it with great success on several houses and cars .

Yes thats tthe one , I got mine on an auction though , and ended up with 7 bottles of chems too , it works really well , must be used with cleaning though.

What i like is that the chems kill bacteria too, well made too and  not usual chinese rubbish.

You can try leaving out saucers of vinegar. It might work depending on the source of the smell but its a cheap option. Nothing lost if it doesn't work.

just bought one, emailed and said you'd recommended giving them a go and that you got a better deal with 5 bottles (should have checked this thread first as may have been able to get 7) and they said they could do that deal for me too so i ordered one. really hope it works as the smell is really aweful in a couple of the rooms

Try a vaporizer with scented a liquid.  Run while you are cleaning.  Put one in each room you want to smell clean and fresh.

Ad febreze to water and spray in the air.  Let it fall on the carpet and see if that helps.  Get fabric softener sheets and leave them in areas out of sight but open to the room's environment.  In bathrooms, alcohol on a rag left in the sink, door closed for an hour should do.  Don't forget to remove the towel.  In kitchens' make it lysol instead.

You don't need to spend a lot of money for "specialized" equipment and chemicals when simple solutions already exist.
