WCW Backpack Charger ??
« on: May 18, 2010, 09:40:18 pm »
I now have no light at all on the backpack charger, red or green ??, and the wires are a bit frayed at the terminal connection.

Can the chargers be bought seperately??, If not what is the alternative (I've seen people mention maplins chargers), and if so what connections do you change them for on the backpack and charger.

Thanks for any info.

I got one from maplins for £20.  I also got matching male and female connectors and soldered these on.  You need to get connections that can only go in one way.

Thanks Simon, was it this one ??

I'm ok with a soldering iron, do you know which connections you got.

I don't really want to use the crocodile clips as it means taking the base from the head unit every time to charge the battery......unless there is another way ???

Thanks

Thats the right one, I can't remember the name of the connector however here is a photo, the new one is secure in the back pack but doesn't look as pretty as there is a slight gap.  Round plug in a square hole.  Works well though, much better than the one supplied which basically started smoking on me.

I thing the charges supplied with the back pak are cheap and rubbish as mine had damaged wire when it arrived after delivery/ I did not pick this up at the time and burst into flames, burned a hole in my polo shirt. It sounded like a gun shot.

I was only there on Monday, must admit I didn't see any other window cleaners. What motor do you drive?

Hope you get the charger sorted. A maplins you get a choice of connections and most will work what I would say is make sure you get one that can't get plugged in the wrong way around.

It is shocking that wcw supply these cheap europian chargers.  Mine smoked Jaggers blew up, if it was a car you'd expect a recall.
