i have a land line which diverts to mobile which is getting quite expensive now, does anyone know of a cheaper way? ave heard you can buy some sort of box which connects to the internet and its free??? any help would be great

I find this quite expensive too. Most calls that I make manually I go via a company called 18866 (that's the prefix too). However, BT are allowed to (and do) prevent this on the call divert system. BT are not allowed to prevent ordinary number dialling from going via another carrier though. Phone companies are allowed to block carrier override though so I retain BT for the flexibility.
If you have a lot of calls diverting to mobile, it may pay you to start BT's "mobile favour" service. The calls (including diverted ones) to mobiles are at a lower rate. However, there is a monthly charge. Whether or not this would pay you to do depends on how many calls are diverted.
I think the boxes you refer to are the ones that automatically route calls via a particular carrier. I've not heard of ones that do it va the internet but I haven't kept up with developments in more recent times.
