you have to keep at it. Some days you will get totally fed-up,but others u mite pick up a good few. I definitely agree knocking on doors is far far better than just putting leaflets through letterboxes. Keep it up,will pay off in the end. :)

Well make sure you leave your number if they want to ask there wife, I tend to do it later on about 5.30 to 7pm to catch more people in, you really only get one or two no answers that way, plus it works in well with my round so makes sense.

Where do you live? Sometimes its harder if your area is already saturated with window cleaners.
The pen is mightier than the sword (and a lot easier to write with!)

You get a lot of people say they must ask their wife, their husband etc.

2 new jobs a day is great. 730 new jobs a year with no days off.

Good luck

To bring a positive note to canvassing: count how many yeses to no’s if its 1 yes and 7 no’s then be happy for no’s, its one closer to 7.
Its staying positive mentelly. :D :D :D

Hi Bud

You mentioned people were wanting to speak to husband/wife etc, when they say this
respond with"ok thats fine. Now I understand how busy people are so would you mind
if i gave you a quick courtesy call in a weeks time to see what youd like to do?"

FACT;most people will say yes, take thier name and number and take control by calling them back.
In my experience you will close 50% of callbacks.Funnily enough 50% of people wont call you back.

For a successful doorcan script i use (my canvassers use it successfully too) check out my website
on resources under resources for premier cleaning staff.

It will work bud.We have generated £1000s of monthly business on the door using this all at top prices.

Good luck and keep knocking...its just a numbers game and a license to print money ;D

Feeling better.

Picked up £310 a year of work (I decided that's how I'd always count it as a motivator).

I've realised that of the people I'm finding in when I call, 1 in 5 is either wanting my services or asks me to try them again soon/wants a cleaner but needs to talk to husband/wife, etc.

So, much more optimistic.

That's more like it.  You have to persist.  I did most of my canvassing in the first 18 months.  After that it just built itself (with an occasional prod from me).  I would go out about 3.30PM.  I would knock on doors until about 8.  Sometimes I would pick up loads of leads.  Other times - not a sausage.  You just have to dust yourself off on the bad days and get on with it.  BTW.  Mortgage rates were about 15% back then and I was still getting some work.

I used to do a bit of canvassing, but find I don't need to now, but there is some advice I,d like to give that I found very useful. Pick a small area at a time and concentrate on that. I never drop flyers, it's a waste of paper, always call personnally on people (let them see that you are an honest and reliable window cleaner). When someone answers the door tell them that you have been asked by to clean the windows of a house in the area, and that if you could get some more customers (to make it viable) you would do them. this makes it sound like you are already there, and may pursuade them. You can give quotes, saying that if you do get enough people, you'll take them on. If you don't, or don't want to proceed with them, you can call back and say that you didn't get enough so won't be doing it, this way you won't loose face if ever you go back to that area again, and at this point give them a flyer.
