PRICING OF OFFICE CLEANING CONTRACT
« on: January 28, 2010, 09:11:12 pm »
Hi everyone,

I am in the process of putting together a quote for a 3 storey office complex.
I would like some advice on how to price. There are 3 cleaners required to clean a floor each.
2 of the cleaners would clean 2 hours per evening and one cleaner would clean one, Monday to Friday.
Therefore total hours 25 p/w. The current cleaners earn £7.00 per hour.

I need to price to make a profit once staff  & overheads are paid such as national ins and tax etc etc. Is it reasonable to charge double?
Obviously I supply sundries & and add one 10% is this feasible I wonder.

Any help would be extremley appreciated.

Thanks

Mark

I would say about £15 + would be required to be sure of a decent margin, depending on the issues around transport, uniform, equipment etc.

I would generally list it like this.

Hourly rate
NI Insurance
Hol Pay
Uniform
Equipment (off- set over period of contract or if contract is fluid then over 1 year. For example floor buffer £1000 cost should be put in your costs at £0.77 per hour of the contract so £19.23 per week and so on with your vacuams and mop buckets etc.)
Insurance
Admin / payroll costs
Cashflow costs
Margin

Add them up and you get your cost per hour, the only aspect of it that is movable is the margin.

This does not include VAT so remember to specify vat ex or incl

Hi Mark, for a starter I would forget trying to get one of the operatives to work a one hour shift unless you have another job that they can drop onto close by. Why not just get the two ops to work a two and a half hour shift as they will still be under the Nic level.

I would request further information on the current staff's employment terms and conditions because if you win the work they will transfer to your comapny under TUPE. In a nutshell that means you must maintain their current t&c's and it's as if they have worked for you from the moment they first started cleaning the site. This means there could be redundancy implications.

So wages @ £7 = £175. plus 10% for holidays (check do they need to work Public Hols), tabards @ 30p each. Materials @ 5% of the wages. Equipment - Numatic's @ £1.00 / wk, HS polisher @ £4.50/ week. Then add your o/h and margin. You will probably be around the £11.00 / hr mark to be competetive but Initial / ISS / Mitie etc could still do it far cheaper. On average large cleaning companies are only making 4-7% net profit! Not an easy way to make money.

If you would like a Daily Cleaning costing spreadheet just e-mail me.

Hello, I hate to interupt this thread, but Phil, are you still working this area?  I have what looks to be a request for a fairly large builders clean.  I do not think I will bid on it but if you are interested I will forward you the details.  It is with Baggaley and Jenkins, seems to be a fairly big out fit.  The site is in Sheffield.  Just let me know.

Cheers

Gilbert
