Hi all just thought you all should know we have had 4 calls this week, from people saying they are from hampshire police. they are trying to get you to advertise with them and take your card details.
Spoke to the police and suprise suprise they can not do any thing about it. as it would cost to much to trace the number when no crime as they say has been comitted so beware.
So go round saying your the police and you might get more work WHAT A JOKE

You also get these saying they represent the hospital, or firemen, dental practices, doctors surgerys, estate agents, the whol caboudle.
They are selling advertising space in a booklet that they will distribute to these services.
Just keep saying no.

I got a call this morning from the psni (police service of northern ireland). Well someone claiming to be them, asking me to advertise with them and said they had other local businesses onboard already. I said no thanks as became suspicious of the private number!

Can you beleive i got a call from a so called "policeman" or someone working for the police that i owned them money! £256.50 to be priecise!
I had aparantly advertised in one of their booklets and now they want there money! ha ha i told him where to go but the guy was hounding me, calling atleast 5 times a day for about a week.
I knew it was a con but a noob might panic when they hear its the police and payout. Very shocking when you think about it.

I too have had the calls that my advert is now in the magazine (or whatever) as previously ordered (not) and what are my card details (for payment).
I tell them I have not ordered anything.
They insist I have.
Ok, I say, what is my order number - I dont order anything unless I give an order number.
End of conversation.

Ah we get loads of these.
The dead givaway when they say "We're calling from/on behalf of......hampshire hospital, hampshire police etc" is that the accent always has that North West tinge to it, (no offence to those of you from there).

Tony, books for schools use exactly the same method trying to extort money out of you.
They normally say something like your company pledged x amount in February and they are calling to accept the payment.
Some larger companies would probably not even question it and just pay up thinking someone else in the company authorised it.
I was threatened with court action for refusing to pay several hundred quid to The Royal Greenjackets that I knew absolutely nothing about.

I had one of these who insisted I 'pledged' £400. After some back and forth I asked the date I pledged then asked my 'secretary Doris'
to check the phone log and make them wait, then simply say no log no call, if they insist ask to hear the conversation that would of been recorded where you confirmed. Then tell 'em to get stuffed. If you are called by such a company and they are pressuring you keep repeating the phrase I am not* placing an order or something similar. I even had one cheeky company send me an invoice for advertising in some european rag and you had to send the form back to cancel. It would of been easy to dismiss it as junk mail. I'd like to see that one stand up in court!
*edit for obvious blooper
