not a cleaning question
« on: January 31, 2010, 09:53:17 am »
hi,  i had a carpet fitted about 2 weeks ago and have noticed a line that goes from 1 side of carpet to the other  see pic,  (ignoire colour camera is knackered),   i first thought it wasw a pull, put it goes all the way,  i have also noticed a line like this one the stairs,  when the carpet was fitted it was one piece,  has any one seen any thing like this or any ideas, before i go back shop and kick off

cheers

Its a fault with the carpet, should have been picked up in the factory, i would go back to where you bought it from for a refund or replacement.

Agree with Mark, it's a line fault. The fitter shouldn't have laid it and it's their responsibility so don't be fobbed off.

A line fault is a descriptive term which can cover .....

Raised tufts
Missing tufts
Low tufts

It should have been picked up by inspectors at the factory, but the fitter certainly should have seen it and brought it to your intention before taking a knife to it.

It's a fault often referred to as a "J Tuft"

hi guys, just got back from the shop,  i dont think he was very happy that i had got an opinion on this carpet, as apprantly carpet shampoos dont know carpets lol

it was fitted on the 8 jan and he wanted to know why it wasnt spotted straight away,  i had a big rug over the carpet and to be honest it didnt bother me till i noticed it went the full length of the carpet and has started to appear on the stairs, then the misses noticed it

he is coming out to look at it and then if there is a problem he will get on to the manufactor who will send out there own inspectors,  but i got a feeling he knows of a problem as he said  "i think i know waht the problem is and these manufactor are good at fixing problems"  but he only done this after looking at what carpet we had fitted

once again cheers for your help

Its a "B" Grade, I worked in a Carpet Warehouse for 3 years and knows a "B" grade when I see one.

Get a it changed or ask for a 50% discount

ask for a 50% discount

... and then spend 3 weeks gradually re-tufting it, a couple of hours a day should do the trick :)

The reason the fitter didnt notice it is, he wont get paid if its not fitted.

They are nearly all self employed so 'no fit no fee'.  and also dont forget he will get paid to uplift the defective one and refit the new one.

I used to do carpet reports, the manufacturer will send someone out offer you a discount or a replacement or like Jim I will retuft it as well.

However, if you want grief, leave it down and just wait for 3 months or so and your wife will start to go on and on about those bleedin lines everywhere. Then you go back to the shop and they say sorry pal you said you would keep it.

For a peaceful life have it replaced or get a professional in like Jim or me to retuft it.

A line like this can be caused where a fitter folds over the carpet and cuts through too deep scoring the carpet below. Manufacturing defects are normally seen before the fitting stage. It is an expensive mistake for a manufacturer to allow products to pass through their quality control in a sub-standard condition. b grade carpets are sold to people specialising in b grade carpets and faults will be pointed out to customers putting the defects into non obvious areas. You cannot fob something like this on people and any manufacturer or retailer will realise this.
It is difficult to analyse something like this from a photo.

yea sorry,  he came out looked at said ok, measured up the carpet and left and said i will get it sorted, was in house less than 3 mins,m  said that the manufactor will ask as he seen it and he can say he can now,

also pointed out a line on the stairs and he said i can cut a piece off the carpet and have it fitted for you, so looks like a new carpet, just means i got to empty room again

cheers for everyones help
