Missing Ladder
« on: July 04, 2005, 11:32:29 am »
This is an extremely long shot, but....here goes.

My "A" ladder "walked" last Thursday afternoon!

It was removed from the front of a building in Lichfield Road, Stone, [Staffordshire].

I realise that this is only going to apply those 'cleaners around this vicinity, and only if they read this forum, [or knows a man wot does].

If anyone is offered a varnished wood, 2.13m, "pointer", under odd circumstances, perhaps you'd pop up here and let me know?

It [was] in good condition, as you would expect from a 6 month old ladder, clean stiles with light scuffing on the treads.

Thanks in advance

Bad luck there  - is it the type of place that might have cameras  - did you report it  - you never know, someone might have found it dumped - always worth a try esp as its not the usual ladder shape

My dad had one stolen years ago, reported it to the police and got it back a couple of days later. It had been dumped in a garden up the road. Good luck

Thanks for all the comments, yes, it's been reported and I've left notes through the doors of a couple of other local w/cleaners, just in case.

I'm working tomorrow, so I've had to go out and buy another this afternoon, I did think of using steps for a few days but so most of "my" front gardens aren't suitable for steps.
So many have soft flower beds, and I'd end up "a**se over teapot"!

Let you all know if it turns up, thanks once again.

Yeah, its a pig to have your gear nicked.
You have to watch out for the binmen too :-\ No, really!
Many years ago now some lads were working one area and one of them left his pointer ladder leaning up against a hedge while he went to collect, by the time he got back it was disappearing into the bowels of the bin mens lorry :'(
They thought a fairly new ladder was rubbish :-[
Was not best pleased >:(
After a chat with the neanderthals, where they just scratched there skulls with calloused, broken fingernails (er, can you have calloused fingernails ???) and kept peering over the back of the lorry as it ate my pointer,  they knuckled off up the road, muttering in a language only they understood. Every now and then they would pause and look over their shoulders at Jock as they threw everything in their path into the back of the lorry (apart from the really interesting bits they would bite on and try to eat 8))

trying to claim the costs of the Council wasn't worth the effort, ever seen the 'Arguement sketch' in Monty Pythons? they obviously used Council officials for their inspiration :D

Mind how you go!

Hi baldeagle

If someone knicked my pointed ladder I'd be gutted. I hope you get it back.

There another window cleaner around here who has a wooden one and he had his name and address burnt into the wood in big letters.

Mines ali so I can't do that but I wish I'd now bought a wooden one for that reason. I'm often paranoid about getting it knicked and they aren't cheap either.

Cheers
