Had one a year Neil ;) great machine for domestic and light commercial, easy to work on and bags of HEAT, which other small TMs lack I am told.

Main service 400hrs Cornwall  :o or Oxford ;), Oil and filter change 50hrs.

No real criticism at this point.

Cant really see a 318 being all that much difference to the Prochem Blazer Plus you selling.
Someone will put me right if I am wrong in saying that.

The 318 has more \cfm and is alot hotter rthan the Blazer Plus.  All in all, the 318 is a better machine and is more advanced.  I know they say the 318 is ok for domestic & light commercial work but.....what would you call light commercial?  I have cleaned with GREAT results thick bar tared night club carpets with a Prochem Cub and Hydramaster Spitfire 3.2.  Both of these machines are less powerful than the 318.

If we believe the publicity, the worlds best selling T/M is the HydraMaster Boxxer 421. The Boxxer 318, or so we're told, makes the 421 redundant as the performance is soooo close, and costs a lot less pennies too :D

If the above is anywhere near being correct, then it should be a more attractive proposition than the Blazer Plus mentioned.

From all the positive feedback I've heard, if I were in the market for a T/M, it would be a 318. And if it was available in pink, then that would be really cool 8)

Safe and happy cleaning :)

thanks guys - am only selling the Blazer to buy a newer TM - to see me thru to eventual retirement - so happy that the 318 is almost the same - just a bit more modern/advanced!

Really appreciate all yr comments -thanks - its quite a big decision to have a newer TM - and I want to make a good move!!

So keep those ideas coming!

cheers

How much is the 318 these days compared to say the Pheonix, which is probably similar if not more powerful than the plus also?

Blazer V's HM 318, is this really a serious question ?.
The 318 imo would win by a country mile.

So how much power do you need to clean carpets? Where do you stop when it comes to truckmount power?  there must be a cut off point that it doesn't make any difference in the results that you get. Is it just a case of mines is bigger and more powerful than yours , and at the end of the day would the carpets cleaned both have the same results if run side by side.

To answer your question is difficult, why dont you spend a day with a TM operator  and I don't mean a prowler or an entry level TM  but a big unit ) then make your mind up. The difference is truly unbelievable., believe me as I was the worlds most anti Truckmounter  ever !.
How I wasted 20 odd years is beyond me.....

Running a entry level truckmount side by side with a big unit will answer some of the questions you have asked but not all of them.  What you have to remember is....Look at th type of work you are currently doing then look at hte type of work you would like to do or get into with a minimal amount of fuss & with operator ease.  If you are mainly doing light commercial work & domestics then the 318 is the perfect machine because it will allow you to also go for any big commercial work that you may want to do if you choose to go that way.  Now,  as i have stated the 318 will cope with almost everything you will tackle however, if you wish to clean carpets at a faster rate with more ease then go for a bigger unit.  Its not a case of BOYS & HEIR TOYS or MINE IS BIGGER THAN YOURS, its a case of what equipment will best suit your needs.  Those words are commonly said by CCs that use portables trying to knock TMs.  The same words could be said about portable users,  why not use a Henry type carpet cleaning machine instead of a Ninja?  The answer is simple really.  You buy the machine that best suits your needs.  If buying a truckmount as a upgrade from a portable or as a upgrade from your existing truckmount you will choose the one that will best suit your needs to help you perform the miracles that  customers expect and at the same time to help make you as much money as possible with the minimal amount of effort.

Tihson,

You are right - the difference when cleaning with more powerful units is not always evident on smaller jobs.

There are a few reasons why I chose one of the more powerful TM's. Most important to me was noise level because i work in Central London. The larger water cooled engines are much quieter. I also wanted to be able to run longer hose runs without too much loss of power. Finally I want my machine to last a long time with little downtime. In  my view this is more likely with an engine that is purring along rather than one that is screaming away at top revs. The difference in cost over it lifetime is relatively insignificant.

It is not relevant for me but a larger TM will give you dual wanding, or even triple wanding.  On the odd occasion I have dual wanded it is phenomenal how much carpet you can clean very quickly. Many people have seen Simon Gerrards pictures on the Crusie liners he is cleaning. He is using a triple wand Titan and cleaning vast quantities of carpets to tight schedules. In that context the 318 is not the right tool for the job.

Nigel

Hi Guys

Neil, where you are based is a big factor in my view, I hear quite a few horror stories regarding TM service which CC's are reluctant to make public and this does seem to involve almost all suppliers.

To be able to drive to the TM supplier in a relatively short time is more likely to allow you to get a problems sorted.

Prochem don't seem to have many pluggers but John at Woodbridge told me a few years ago , that they were the best quality machines he serviced!

I have the Alltec, Blueline Cobalt which at 22HP is a bit bigger and so far so good, and when I did have a problem which was quite complex it was sorted in a day.

Cheers

Doug

Another Blueline product, but that amount of heat is frightening!
