A picture would be best. For instance it could be an oriental rug that would bleed like buggery even at ph8. If you wand it you might make a mess of it. Or it could be perfectly fine. Need more information.

A cleaning course might help too.

Mallie. A dye bleed test is a must on wool or wool content carpets / rugs. Prespray Gold is a prochem product , why not give them a ring and go through it with them? .

Just done a lounge and dining room wool carpet.
PSG, dwell, agitate then extracted with Ninja using steamate facility on it.
It was in a good state and owner had vacced prior to my arrival so I thought,
I'll extract using steam but just plain water in tank.
Came up a treat.
Will try this approach again with wool, even to the extent of using Powerburst
as pre spray.
Just a thought, sometimes it's nice to experiment.

Whilst I would agree with coloured rugs as 'a must' yet some would say it's a waste of time too.

It's very rare that I would test for colour fastness on a wool carpet, especially a plain light colour. So you do that on every wool carpet before you start, leave it to dwell etc?

proper rugs not bonded back and the modern crap, if it bleeds so what , it will stop eventually . fringe work is part of the clean !!
Ive genuinely tested a carpet twice , tested 1 Silk on silk
rugs should always IMO should be taken away and cleaned .
this testing malarky gets a bit of a pest.

After this last wkd I hate rugs but love the wow factor from the clients
O and the ££££ is nice

Right so you your test and yes red is a bugger ( unstable )
so if its going to bleed ( migrate ) would you then pass it on to some 1 else
I dont still see the point of all this testing
we should know how to correct before we start any work or seek guidance from an old hand/Book/Web.

All IMO of course
