clean brass plates

been trying to clean brass plates on a communal front door. they clean ok with brasso etc, but i have been taking the plate off each time and it is getting  a pain, and leaves a black ring on the door if you do it in place. have tried spray car laquar, but goes cloudy. any better ideas?

baby wipes then duster to buff

I use Peek Polish and it does not leave black marks
