funny isent it. when any body does well there are a load of others who want put them down. carpet and upholstery cleaning is by no means rocket science. i dont have public schooling. or degrees or certificates. or goin on every training course, you know what i go out and  do the job and learn. i am not the best , i am not the richest. and i dont mind somebody doing better than me in fact i hope you do.what i do know work experience is 100 times better than any certificate i can show. sherlock says

If you strive to be better than your last job or if you know of someone who does a brillaint job and you strive to be better than him then you will become greater and most probably more profitable to boot!

I think to a certain extent you ar right, but to another you are not!
The mix of both learning in the classroom bonded with learning hands on with an experienced cc is the by far the best way to gain the experience and know how.

What does worry me about you, is that you dont seem to know the fundermentals of carpet and upholstery cleaning!!
I have not got a single problem with you as a person, after all, i don't know you!
but i do feel that it is only a matter of time before you come unstuck, and end up owning the item that you have cleaned!!

ian i have already owned sometihing i have cleaned for someone. but i learnt and have not repeated the same mistake. everybody makes them but some will never own up.

I think the trick is to be open to all ideas and make your own judgement...you seem very blinkered in your view that you know best from experience and maybe you're right. But knowledge is power... particuarly in awkward situations.

I'm not a course freak nor am i highly educated and i have learn't from mistakes in the past but i have also learn't alot from courses and forum's such as these...i think a bit of everything is a good mix to become successful.

i dont dissagree with that. if courses are taken it can only benifit, but at the end of the day there are 2 important facts, 1st is it does not matter how trained you are to do the job by schooling alone, you have to be on the job to learn hands on skills, train whilst on the job that is the only real way to learn. 2nd point at the end of the day lets not kid ourselves, it does not matter how well trained  we are, if we cant sell, we wont work, we are salespeople first and formost.no sales no money.if however you can do both you are a winner.

absolutely spot on sherlock. any mug can clean a carpet. getting the carpet to clean is much trickier. have been to many courses and been thrilled by products/techniques talked about only to find them ineffective in reality. experience is king. in every field. sometimes i think courses are more useful after gaining significant experience when you can properly assess what youve been taught.(this obviously wouldnt work without a mentor). a month with a jedi master cc can set you up for a life.
