I know you can turn the blade over and use the oppoiste side.. but how long does the blades last for you guys?.. I'm using the ettore 18" squeegee.. Thanks.. This is a fantastic site.. Thanks for all you the tips I have learned here.

It's a great forum isn't it.

I use the blade untill I notice that either it doesn't 'seem' right or until I get vapour trails. You know those lines as if you had a bit of something stuck to the blade but there's nothing there.

Some on this forum change them everyday but I'm not that organised or probably I would.

Sometimes I find the blade lasts a week, sometime a few days. I don't know how to quantify it in terms of houses though.

A blade will usually last me a couple of days before i wear the ends away or i get slight water trails start then i change them.
But a few times i have had them last a week.
If your using an 18 blade when you have worn the ends if there are no nicks in it cut it down and use in a smaller squeegie.

pulex hard i get a week out of easy with a trim or a change round  ,

any of the soft rubbers I knock them out in a day so don't bother with them any more

Same here, my rubbers would last for weeks (pre WFP) before I needed to turn them over, then the moment I turned them over I would be lucky to get more than a couple of days out of that side! Go figure
Of course they can be knackered after just 1 window if something causes a 'nick'.
And don't you just hate it when you turn over the rubber for that nice fresh edge....the one you have been thinking, 'I'll just do a few more windows with the 'old' side'. As your anticipation builds for that nice, clean, easy to use flip side....Only to find there is already a 'nick' half way down the rubber
And why does this always seem to happen when you have left that new pack of squeegee rubbers at home on the kitchen worktop ......20 miles away

My favourite rubbers were always the soft Ettore ones, great to use but wear out very quickly.
Harder compounds can last way longer, but they are not so forgiving on squeegee technique, you have to be more precise.

Mine can last weeks and I just use the cheap pulex ones but I also find that when you turn the blade over you get very little use out of it.

around a week on average, using pulex, although some rogue ones last only an hour, quality control problems?

Thanks for the replies guys.. I think my 18" has about bit the dust.. I'm not 100% sure.. but it has been leaving a few trails.. I was thinking it was from the angle I'm holding the squeegee.. I'll get some refills and roll on with it.. again.. thanks much.
