Hi All,

Looking for some advice on tratment of an old wine stain (RED wine). Customer says it is about 1 month old, looks quite deep on an 80/20 wool carpet. She has had a go at it with everything under the sink and wants me to have a go at it......

I said I'll seek advice and come back to her.
So come on guys, any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If I sort this out will do my reputation wonders as I am new and all that.......

I have had some good successes with red wine using MS but not if the client has turned it bluey/green with kitchen sink products.

First extract with water then if stain is not red , dab on neat acid rinse and it should go red, then MS and extract again.

To be seriouse, you have had 62 veiws and only 4 replys and I bet most have said  to themselves"Oh Dear" and they have recalled their own experiance were they have wasted ,time, money, and experiance, which has all been a dead loss? by the time the customer has had a go and rubbed and scrubbed the uniformity of the texture has usualy shot it, but there has never ever been a problem of stain removal, its about leaving the origional colour intact under the stain?

Sorry to be formal but there is other Paul replying, think Barry has hit the nail on the head, also worth checking has the customer had a previous cc in, as I have been in this situation in the past and haven’t advised me!

Have a look at the another forum site, they have a full section on stain removal. 

Myself, I generally first try with an mild acetic solution, agitate with clean terry towel or soft brush, leave for a few minutes then extract off, repeat as necessary.  Good chance the stain will turn blue first before coming out.

It is always harder if they have already "had a go" at getting it out themselves.

Buy yourself a tub of "spray and go" from Chemspec. It is sold for removing coffee stains but it works very well on red wine.

Follow the usual tests to ensure it will not affect the carpet colour and wear a mask etc.

Rinse all the residue from the stained area with your extractor. Apply Spray and Go and allow 10 minutes for it to work and rinse, repeat as necessary. I have never known it not to work.

Please remember this product is Sodium metabisulphite and is a reducing bleach. It is extremely important to test in an inconspicuous area to make sure that the colour of the carpet is not affected by the chemical. That said I have never known it not to work on red wine.

Another good product is Red RX from Prochem, can apply and rinse or use heat transfer method.

I've never yet failed with Red Wine Stains using
Craftex "Shift" . I'ts evil smelling ,Ammonia Based,
but customers are amaxed to see the stain disappear before their eyes.
