I have a custy who has just had an extension built and the patio doors are self cleaning(haha) there are dried on spots of cement all over them , is it possible to get them off without damaging the coating, Regards Dave.

Soak them with warm soapy water and they will break down into their original parts of granulated sand and cement. Then give them a rinse with a hosepipe to remove the bigger deposits.

Repeat and whats left just mop and blade.

Remember the builder put those marks there and the customer must have known the risks when the work was being done. They should have put sheets of cling-film across the glass to protect it. Explain this and the risks with cleaning it, make sure you are not liable.

As for the Pilkington Activ? Serves them right for having it in the first place!

i would get the customer to sign a waiver , so at least they cannot blame you for scratching the glass

According to Pilkington they recommend Ritec or Viakal limescale remover, apply it to the affected area using a soft cloth or sponge by dabbing it not rubbing , any limescale remover dripping on to surrounding areas should be wiped off immediately and the area cleaned with water and a soft cloth, leave the limescale remover on for 30mins but do not let it dry out, then rinse with clean water ensuring run off does not contaminate surrounding areas, then make sure none of the loosened material gets dragged across the glass so as not to cause permanent damage , thats about it , if they have any reservations about me doing this I will ask them to get builders back in , thanks for your replies . Redcaddy I think you are right, I am going to do as WISEOWL suggests and just use soapy water if they dont come clean custys will have to take it up with the builders Regards Dave.

I clean the mansion of a major shareholder of Pilkington ( as well as Liverpool FC!! ) he was also one of the bosses until relatively recently. His whole mansion is fitted with Pilknington Activ, when I first came to his house he was quite skeptical as regards the use of the wfp on his windows, but later that day he phones up some Pilkington big wig up ( old mate ) who assured him that the wfp would be ok. I wouldnt use a scraper on activ glass though!

I cleaned his house and he was so happy with the standard he came out with a glass of beer for me, I declined!! Hes an old fashioned Cambridge type!!!

Monofilament or flocked brush ?

I used a monofilament, its quite safe,as the coating isnt like  the gold plating on a Thai fake Rolex!!!
