new buisness
« on: April 04, 2005, 01:52:52 pm »
Hi all, Im just about to set up a carpet cleaning buisness, ive got myself booked on the ncca course and prochem course. Im ready to get the van and equipment( from prochem) I did work in the field for a couple of years but just as an assistant to a carpet cleaner. I have done my research and planned my advertising - but now have the jitters! All i really wanted to know is how many jobs per month etc do you consider to be the "average" - Im just worried that by leaving my nice (not!) secure full time job im jumping out of the fryingpan and into the fire!  Any advice would be more than appreciated      Thanks    ollie

Hi Ollie & Welcome ;D

Really sorry that no-one has posted to your reply, it is very unusual!. Unfortunately I am not into the carpet cleaning side of things so I haven't got a clue!!.

I am sure it's just that time of year and many of the regulars are taking a well deserved holiday!

Do try using the 'search' facility. Incidentally more & more clients are enquiring about upholstery cleaning. Where are you based?

Good luck in your new venture!

Maggie :)

Welcome to the forum too.....
I used to clean carpets.....done the Prochem course and bought all their gear and had no problems with chemicals or machines etc.
However, i would say that if you price the jobs right...i.e the highest you can get away with!! You would want a minimum of around 2 complete houses per week. If you were to charge in the region of £200.00 per house = £400.00 per week minimum.
Obviously, if you got a whole house each day = £200.00 x 5 = £1,000 per week
You should also try the carpet cleaning section of this forum for other pointers ans see how others are doing in the business

All the best

Welcome to the forum

When i 1st got involved in the cc industry i worked for someone it gave me financial security and it gave me 6 months training by someone who had been in the game for about 19 years in both commercial and domestic work

The way we worked out money is what we need each week to live on ie rent food bills at 1st as we didnt expect it to be busy plus you spend more time door knocking. Until the work started to come in
The next thing we realised was time scale dont over book what could take most of the ccs on here 20 min could take you 45min until you gain the experince

Do the courses and get as much know how as you can before getting off being a wage slave make sure you have enough to live on in the bank as those 1st few weeks are hard

But my best advise  would be ask 1 of the ccs on here if there in your area and then ask them if you could tag along with them for a few days (unpaid were all money mad) to see if you could do it. Sometimes what looks easy aint

GOOD LUCK

Thanks very much for your responses I have decided to stay in my job (i get friday off as i work 4 10 hour days) whilst doing carpets and upholstery on fridays and weekends. I will quit my job when things pick up.
I must say it was a godsend finding this site and hopefully i will be able to give something back in the not so distant future!

Thats a good idea may i suggest as well that you for class 2 exemption from the tax man being as you have a full time job allready this allows you in the first 2 year not to pay any class 2 stamp and as your only going to work part time to start with it would be a good thing to do

Thanks for that advice paul i will look into it. Can i also ask anyone who is ncca registered if they find this a bonus? Im going on the course and i intend to purhase the membership but after checking up my future competitors in the swansea area it transpires they have all resigned their membership (although its still on their ads in the yp due to them being members when it went to press). Do you think this is a reflection of the ncca not working for them? Im hoping it will give me a bonus being the only one?    ollie

Hi..............and welcome to the site.

I have been in the Cleaning Industry for over twenty years managing large portfolios for many of the 'big boys'..............the household name companies that we all know so well.

Although I have always kept carpet cleaning machines and trained personnel to deal with everyday emergencies and spillages, I have always subcontracted routine carpet cleaning work out to others....it's just so much simpler logistically.

I therefore suggest that you make contact with as many 'office cleaners' as you can with a view to sub contracting work from them.

I know that it's not the sort of business you're aiming for and will pay a little less per square metre BUT it will keep your equipment 'busy' on your quiet days.

Good luck in your new venture.
