Maybe a daft question, but if you only use a small amount of water, why not use rainwater off your roof?

You'll find that the tds is of the order of 002 to 008 and will probably supply all your needs if you have, say, five 200 liter butts. In times of drought, you can always revert to tap water.

thanks wally but that did not really answer my question. Do i really have to drill my water tank (250l flat) to my floor via the chasis? couldn't i just rachet strap it down as i have anchor points already in the van

I have a 250ltr flat tank in my trailer.  It is just ratchet strapped and hasn't budged in 18mnths.
Mind you, the achor points broke (only rivited to the trailer sides!!) so I replaced them with bolts.
