hi i am trying to set up a van mount system, ive bought all the items i think i need :-Tank, frame,pump,flow master, 20"pre filters 40/40 RO,11L di vessel,auto fill.      I understand the water comes through the auto fill and pre filters then to the RO and di vessel. I have not yet got my head around the inlet, outlet, and drain connections of the RO and how to control the amount of waste water from it. Ive got the stainless steel type housing which has a center connection at each end and a connection off center at each end . I would be extremely greatfull if anyone has ideas on how to plumb the 40/40 RO

Most important is making sure you identify the 'feed' end of the RO Membrane.  If its not in the housing correct and the water is fed into it from the wrong end, you could ruin it.  The 'Feed' side of the RO membrane is the side with the rubber gasket on it.  That end needs to be fed by your prefilters via one of the 'off center' inlets on the end of the housing.  The 'on center' hole on that end needs to be plugged. 

On the other end of the housing, you will put a needle valve of some sort on the 'off center' hole.  This is the waste and is controlled via that valve.  The hole on center at that end is where your pure water will come out of and that then leads to the DI.

Closing the waste valve will produce water(dont close it all the way) and opening it will flush the system.

LOL I did that once ran it back to front for two days, had to flush it for two weeks to get ppm down

Havabobon....could you enlighten me re the autofill..I too am buying the parts to make up a 4040 type system but the autofill seems to baffle me beyond measure.

Could you shed some light?

Let's try and explain it for you.

Auto fill with a 40 inch system can only be done using a solenoid valve which you put inline in the INGOING water supply. You couple it to a circuit breaking float valve which you need to put in by drilling a hole in your tank. You have the choice of a horizontal float valve which you would put through the side of your tank or a vertical one which you put onto the top of the tank. I think a vertical would be best for you.

The type of solenoid valve you need is a 12 volt NORMALLY CLOSED ONE.  This means that it will close when it does not have power. I.E. when the float valve in the tank rises and breaks the circuit the solenoid valve will close thereby stopping any water going into the system. There you have it... auto fill or in other words auto cut off when the tank is full.

It does mean that you will need a battery in the van to power it. You can use your main system supply battery as long as you can charge it overnight in-situ or alternatively I suppose you could use the van battery because it uses a tiny trickle of power abd none at all when the circuit is broken when the tank is full.

Oh you will need a on/off switch. A small rocker switch would do just fine.

I would give Varitech a call on 01626 830 830. They don't have a website but are the largest suppliers to the trade and also do retail sales.

Mike would be the best one to speak to there. He really knows his stuff on RO systems and fittings.  They do the Solenoid valves, appropriate connectors to put them onto hose and the float valves.

Thanks this is very helpful i,ll strip the RO and make sure on which way around it is and check all connections.The auto fill came with some instructions and does seem straight forward engough 4 wires pos' neg' and 2 to the float valve thanks again
