Went out today for a few hrs (mainly for a bit of peece) did a few strugs, went throught garage with hose  to clean back no probs so far, Hose caught side of car and did a bit of minor scatching Ooops I though problem .. car was a mint condition something used for showing, no probs again I thought get a local mobile "Chips away" to sort... No chance needs to have Back panel and rear Bumper Re - Sprayed.  Earned £30 outlay £250 + "pass the Brandy"

Would it be worth claiming the cost from your insurance?  I don't think my insurance would be much good as I have a £200 excess (or is it £250?).

Is damage like this tax deductable?

Thanks Windows Chepstow Mines £250... time to bend the plastic i suppose...Won't do that trick again sod the back windows... I'll put it on tax return and see what happens...tried to claim for computer purchase couple years ago got told by tax help line "windowcleaners don't need computers" account pushed it through though

Sorry to hear about your misshap. I think ladders are a worse risk to carry through a garage or house so you probably got off quite lightly ( although that won't make you feel any better about it)

Yeah, sorry to hear you got bit in the arse, but we live & learn by our mistakes. As Vince said, ladders are an even bigger risk to lug through a garage with a car in it
Is this a case where a backpack or trolley would be a good option?

I'm just pee'd off he abandoned ladders and went for a WFP.

I was hoping he'd have a work related accident, break a leg or two, then I could try and pinch his extremely lucrative round.

Everywhere around the town centre you see Ian working!

I hate to say it, but he's this areas most successful window cleaner - without a doubt.  Give me a couple of years and hopefully I'll be nipping at his heels.

I couldn't do without mine.  I use a spread sheet (that George_Systems gave a slagging off), but it organises all my work, accounts and keeps track of all my debtors.

I automatically put mine down as a 'start-up cost' when I started.  I didn't even think the 'tax man' would be funny about it!

All of us in CWP would be stuffed without computers, as the whole system is e-mail based....let alone printing out weekly worksheets....then there's the accounts...

Same here.. spend more time with the computer than the missus..(unlike the missus I can turn it off) I use a data base to sort round out gives me daily work sheet, daily debt list, and helps me keep track of yearly turnover, Maintain web site,design leaflets ect,Use Micro soft money for accounts then pay accountant £40 to fill box's on tax form, (Did deal with accountant this year clean her windows she'll sort tax form)
Back to my moan... guy with car still waiting for price to repair.. apparently Gas man called to service boiler on monday..so his missus made him walk through the house out the back patio and in the back door of the garage to get to boiler (I bet he smiled when he hear the story)

So anyways, another argument kicked off there about the WFP etc.
But enough about that, i was wondering whether it was worth buying into a WFP and Ditching the ladder, my round mainly consists of residential work, can also mean driving around doing 3 or 4 back in van 3 or 4 etc.
I also have a few small factory's and a college on my workload. I know the college would suit the WFP, but is it worth me buying one for all the houses and would it save me time, i normally can do about 32 normal sized houses on my own everyday, and about 46 with a guy?
Also which ones gonna be the best? Cos ive heard mixed receptions from all of em really. Also, can u still clean window sills cos customers are fussy?

How much am i looking for a decent system?
