Standing orders, the customer has complete control how much comes out and how frequent they make the  payment so its easier for you to sell the idea to them. you should also consider bank transfers also if you don't already

direct debit, is set up by you to take money from them

a standing order is set up by them to give you money

both can be regular payments or one off.

I have a few who pay by a bank transfer or standing order - none that pay by DD yet however i was considering deducting approx 20% for those that do pay by DD before the clean.

i have a few that pay bank transfer

just would be good if we had control of taking the money

like house hold bills do

DD would be a problem for me as although i dont mean to im not always there the same week and i run a 6 weekly round
